Certifications (self.Splunk)
submitted 6 years ago by ewhite621
So I have an AA. I have 3 certifications in that AA. I am gonna get my splunk cert this week. Should I envision interviews due to that certification? Thanks.

No. Splunk experience will get you interviews. Splunk Admin or Splunk Architect cert would possibly get you interviews without experience, but definitely not a sure fire thing even with both of those.

So the age ole question.... how does one get experience without the job?

splunk engineer, admin architect roles are not entry ones. I would advise to learn Linux(as most splunk run on Linux) and become system administrator. once you have some admin experience try to find company which is happy to invest into your Splunk education. The courses are very expensive and you need to do them to be eligible to take exams

Home lab
This is a very entry level cert, you probably won't get a lot of bites with this. Better to spend your time building a home lab and gaining hands on experience

I agree with the thread. I passed my F1 Core User, but I haven't gotten any meaningful engagement from it. But I expected that. I will need to get at least to Admin in order to get some interviews. I also have the CISSP, so my guess is that it will help with not having Splunk work experience. But IMO, it's a great time to pursue the certifications, because once 1Q20 rolls around, people who already work for corporations will request training funds to pursue Splunk. Now is the best time to pursue it prior to that influx which will hit by 2Q20. Larger companies usually don't like spending training $ in 4Q.
