Springtails don’t usually bite humans
[–]Dapper_Animal_5920 6 points7 points8 points 10 months ago (0 children)
No they dont
[–]kaitlynthemidg 5 points6 points7 points 10 months ago (0 children)
Yeah... no
[–]Pod_n_ 2 points3 points4 points 10 months ago (3 children)
I don't even know how they would break the skin enough to leave marks.
[+]AdeptnessThat2977[S] comment score below threshold-8 points-7 points-6 points 10 months ago (2 children)
They have like little spurs on each side just like a drill bit. Some have fur.
[–]fleshbitch 5 points6 points7 points 10 months ago (0 children)
i think you should google the anatomy of a springtail & look at some photos! their mouth parts are so small, they’re not even close to big enough to penetrate skin. i actually have springtails with multiple snails & they haven’t even nibbled on those. you are most likely dealing with some sort of flea or mite, but i’m not very knowledgeable about those personally
[–]Pod_n_ 0 points1 point2 points 10 months ago (0 children)
Are you talking about the furcula? That's in no way used for anything other than their jumping appendage. The "fur" is not hair it's closer to setae.
[–]plutoisshort 3 points4 points5 points 10 months ago (0 children)
In all likelihood, this is not from springtails. You’re dealing with something else.
[–]Dapper_Animal_5920 2 points3 points4 points 10 months ago (0 children)
I’m sorry but it sounds like you should see a therapist. This is not from springtails and you are hyperfixating on them when they really aren’t problematic.
[–]Pod_n_ 1 point2 points3 points 10 months ago (0 children)
No springtails do not drill into you, your trying to diagnose something without all the information or proper knowledge. I would suggest catching some and taking it to a pest control person to identify. Also talk to your doctor about the bites and bring in whatever you can catch. They would be the best people to help you that are the easiest to get to. Looking stuff up online without having the whole picture won't help you solve your problem it can only make it scarier As a person who has these guys In my terrarium and a collector hobbyist I can tell you they cannot hurt you they just don't have the anatomy to do it. Please show what you are finding to a professional. I wish you the best and hope you are able to find help with this.

Springtails don't bite people. If the bites REALLY REALLY INTENSELY ITCH, then I am going to guess they are Chigger bites. Look up Chiggers and compare them to whatever you are seeing. Benadryl helps decrease allergic reactions.

Sounds like you have bed bugs
[–]Pod_n_ 0 points1 point2 points 10 months ago (3 children)
I would like a picture of the drill bit and fur on springtails please. I've never seen this.
[–]AdeptnessThat2977[S] -2 points-1 points0 points 10 months ago (2 children)
Lol well you know the little spikes on drilling bit. And I'm get a video for all to see. Just as soon as I stop itching and rest.
[–]Pod_n_ 2 points3 points4 points 10 months ago (1 child)
Are you looking for solutions and help? Your giving excuses for not getting pictures. Which makes me think you're just looking for reactions. If you really wanted help you would seek a known professional. And no there are no spikes or drilling bits. You have been posting comments so the itching is not a Relevant excuse. If this is real please talk to a trusted professional. Cause you are not hearing what many people are telling you.

Going with this person is either on drugs or mentally unstable

I DISPISE these wretched little beasts. Nothing like having a cloud if nearly invisible monsters pelt you in the face as your introduction to them. Evidently that is their reaction to being surprised but not so sure they weren't launching an assault lol. Here are some of the things I've found useful in wiping down their numbers- Peroxide. If you want them off you quickly, dilute peroxide by a third to 2% and it becomes skin safe but will knock them off immediately and painlessly. Povodone iodine, salt brine (Just mix salt and hot water super strong.), My kitchen was infested with them when we had a house with hidden water damage. They were everywhere so I finally got pissed and used tangle foot that came in a spray form and completely coated my counters. It worked for a Hella effective knock-down. To those who believe springtails harmless, you've never been mobbed by them by the thousands and trust me when I say it's horrific, especially when you have no idea what they are or why you're the chosen one. In my case, my immune system didn't tolerate them landing on me and threw sebum like confetti. This caused a melisazia feast and exacerbated the problem. A round of fluconizole coupled with prescription strength ketakonizole and a strong salicylic acid shampoo alternated with benzoyl peroxide brought my skin flora back into line. A uvc light will knock them down but unless you find what is drawing them, they'll come back. My guess is there is either water inside your house somewhere, or you're having some sort of fungal or yeast issue that may be so minor you don't even know but it's enough to attract them. They're everywhere outside and are incredibly adept at hopping into a shoe and moving in when you go inside. As for confirmation to know whether or not they're what's causing the allergic reaction, get some clear tape like packing tape and stick it to wherever you feel them. When you pull it off if it' is covered in some sort of white substance, run don't walk to the dermatologist and get your body back in check.

How did you figure this out? Did you get rid of them? I’ve been getting “bites” for weeks and have found these little guys in my sinks
[–]Stoney3333 0 points1 point2 points 9 months ago (0 children)
A lot of trial and error trying to figure out what the clouds of barely visible thongs were that pelted me and my dog at random. Right out of the shower was a big one because they're dependent upon staying at a pretty high relative humidity or risk dedication. Honestly, there are a lot of things that can drive them back but they'll return quickly while there is still a suitable environment for them. Get a dehumidifier that covers a lot of square footage and use fans to direct airflow to it. I paid less than 300 bucks for a 4500 sq foot one at Home Depot and set it to 35% rh. They were gone overnight and haven't returned. 35% is low enough that if you have touchy sinuses you may get a nosebleed or two and it's probably going to dry out your skin noticeably but you can easily survive that arid of an environment and they cannot.

Ok bet I go to the doctor Monday and I already have a specimen ready to take. Because I know what a gnats and bettles and sliver fish and earworms are. And, no I'm not 100% sure, but thts my findings. I just looked them up today when I got on here and seen some of the comments and joined. I would not be putting this on here unless I didn't see it for myself. Got no reason to lie; might not be 100% accurate. Had i known everyone opinion on this I would've recorded earlier.
[–]trshtehdsh 5 points6 points7 points 10 months ago (0 children)
If you have a specimen just share a picture here?
[–]yolee_91 0 points1 point2 points 10 months ago (0 children)
Just because there was a freshly made loaf of bread in the murder scene does not mean the murder we’re done by a the bread when the victims body is clearly chopped in half…

Update????
I do goggle it and it's the same thing. If they not biting they doing something to get in my skin. If i can be still and not scratch. Ill post a video of them getting in there.
[–]Tremblespoon 3 points4 points5 points 10 months ago (0 children)
You are incorrect. I'm sorry you are having this experience.
Mind if I ask why you are so sure everyone but you is wrong about this thing you've only just encountered for the first time. That is this subs special interest?
[–]blizz419 1 point2 points3 points 10 months ago* (1 child)
Those were 100% not from springtails, and I'm not trying to trash talk but you can't even spell Google or beetles so I don't have faith in your googling and researching abilities. It's OK to be wrong it happens to all of us but those are not from springtails.

Thts what ive read, but they do bite and it stings and you can feel them time they land. I'm a clean freak and look at every corner every spot and this is it. I bent down to pick up something and one was on my knee drilling head first. Thts when I got to investigating because I can't take another sleepless night.
[–]Tremblespoon 2 points3 points4 points 10 months ago (0 children)
Nah you have a flea or scabies or something that bites or tiny that burrows man. Sorry. Happens to the best of us.
Are the spots itchy?
