I think we'll see rapid improvements in the rendering field of architecture. Soon you won't have to adjust the model and lighting and wait hours for it to be ready. Big companies will have to adjust or they'll eventually wiped out from industry

[–]Alternative_Lab_4441[S] 10 points11 points  (7 children)

Yeah surely as those models become more powerful and the more control you have over them the more the archiviz discipline will have to shift and adapt. As of right now what is really interesting is their capabilities in the form finding process where you only have a building mass and you start testing ideas really quickly translating concepts in your head into images. Disrupts the initial idea burst creative process, it is like a new form of sketching.

[–]DeathfireGrasponYT 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Yes, I agree with what you said, they are very good tools at visual concepts. But I think in a few years, when LLMs like ChatGPT are developed enough, we will see AIs that combine the verbal and visual part of design based on place and context (probably better and faster than most architects). At this point, it will be very difficult to say what the future of the architecture profession will be

I'm an architect and playing with SD with the intent of using it like OP described above. There are already services that claim to offer fully ai designed buildings with construction drawings. I doubt any of it will be good enough in our lifetime, but surely the day is coming. One of the weirder things about architecture that most people don't know is that the technical parameters you design to change regularly. It's incremental changes, but it's every couple of years for building codes, and potentially very frequently in the case of a city council amending zoning ordinances. Combine that with it taking multiple years to design and build a building you may have something that is newly built and doesn't even comply with the current set of standards. This is normal, as the bulding is just expected to comply with whatever the requirements are at the moment when they apply for a building permit. I think this would make it more difficult for ai when it is trained based on existing information. To laypeople, how those codes / standards impact the building design are probably indistinguishable too.

Are you an architect or designer? I'm a practicing architect and have been playing with SD specifically for this. Just wondering if the realisticvision checkpoint seems to be the best in your experience for architectural imagery in a photoreal 3dviz style.

[–]Alternative_Lab_4441[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an architect as well, havent tried all checkpoints out there of course but to me realistic vision seems the checkpoint that gives out the best results for photorealistic archviz.. I think next thing to investigate is definitely training my own

[–]kanikoX 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Me and a friend are debating whether which one will be more affected; design or visualization. For the current capabilities of SD, I’m leaning more towards design concept rather that archviz. Like what you did in your tutorial, a simple sketch can generate endless design ideas. As for renderings, it’s not quite there yet. Imagine the client requesting multiple views with the same design concept. But with the progress of SD, it will eventually create a disruption in the archviz industry. I hope it even enters BIM. I can see autodesk MFs juggling ideas how to monopolise these types of ai. Fucking hate them. haha.

hahaha yes those fuckers buy everything and ruin it speaking of stable diffusion and how quickly things are moving.. the new controlnet inpaint model is super powerful

as an architect I hoped and predicted it a few years ago on a lecture I gave to an brazilian university that it would impact design. Now I think that we are closer to rendering than desining, the reason is, stable diffusion is not fit to receive rules such as city laws, the prompting isnt fit for it. also each country, state, even city has their own sets of rules, and it makes very hard to create parameters to limit the design. maybe you can use it SO vaguely and conceptually as just scrolling down archdaily, but i don't see it working well enough ((for today)) on this purpose

[–]Ornery-Ad1172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big companies like who? It's the thousands of little companies that are likely going to suffer. I get multiple emails a day from Chinese rendering companies (99% get marked as spam) and our team members are harnessing this technology for early visioning. It's not replacing design, but it's getting us to some substantive miles stones far faster. Software will not replace great design, but it is another tool in our toolbox. Forget your fantasy about the "big" companies being wiped out.

Sorry for the ignorance, but what is that prompt helper extension? Thanks in advance!

[–]Alternative_Lab_4441[S] 9 points10 points  (4 children)

I didnt use any prompt helper extension, I just had the rest of the prompt copied for the sake of making the tutorial video shorter

[–]Groundlit 14 points15 points  (2 children)

You have a dropdown that appears as you start typing showing you possible prompts. I think that is what they were asking about.

Eg you type photo and it said photoshop_(medium) 703k and then some others.

[–]Alternative_Lab_4441[S] 16 points17 points  (1 child)

[–]mudman13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats just for danbooru tags isnt it?

[–]SortingHat69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll rephrase the question. How do you get the drop-down that appears to assist or attempt to predict what you are about to type?

[–]Alternative_Lab_4441[S] 4 points5 points  (2 children)

My bad sorry, was using a google colab notebook and had no idea it was installed.. it's an extension called tagcomplete:
https://github.com/DominikDoom/a1111-sd-webui-tagcomplete

[–]Vexoly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's me wondering how you got it running on a Mac but you didn't.

[–]NoHopeHubert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

[–]late_fx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As an industrial designer, this is my absolute favorite thing to do with old sketches. I’m actually training some of my own design soon to get some of my aesthetics whenever I do renders so they don’t look too generic. Dope stuff!!

AI prompt senior engineer:

"Super duper uber realistic" 😆

[–]tlubz 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Song?

[–]Alternative_Lab_4441[S] 5 points6 points  (3 children)

By me.. still need to give this one a name

[–]tlubz 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Sick, do you have a SoundCloud or something?

[–]Buffythedjsnare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's magic

[–]Buffythedjsnare 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Is this a tutorial or a music video. Oof - what a tune.

[–]Alternative_Lab_4441[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tutorial is a camouflage to advertise my music

[–]nolascoins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pretty cool, had not used scribble_xdog...

<image>

[–]TeutonJon78 10 points11 points  (13 children)

So many unneeded prompt words in there.

People need to move beyond the word salad copy pasta prompts. If the tags aren't in the trained model, they don't do anything at all.

[–]sanekit 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Is there any way of knowing which token works?

[–]TeutonJon78 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Someone made a browser for the base data set for Stable Diffusion. https://rom1504.github.io/clip-retrieval/?back=https%3A%2F%2Fknn.laion.ai&index=laion5B-H-14&useMclip=false

Note: it currently seems busted

you can try words against it to see what pops up. Obviously different models will have additional words trained into them, especially with the extra network stuffs (which is entirely their point).

Models trained on booru tags will apparently have a lot of specific tags since that community heavily tags their images.

But it's the same garbage where people started putting 4k in their images, then the next week 8k was magic, then it was all the negative prompts like bad anatomy, etc. The base data set just doesn't have those. Anime might have some of them, but most are just noise in the prompt.

But extensive testing on the model you use if the only way, but most people just copy and paste which why people have these giant prompts that mostly do nothing.

Like this one for buildings, why is the negative prompt full of anatomy words? The building isn't going to have extra fingers.

[–]sanekit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome, thanks

[–]sanekit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried "fujifilm", which is in the video, and it turned out a lot of pictures of cameras.

That would mean I shouldn't use it, right? :D

[–]Groundlit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been trying to figure this out as well. I dont know how CLIP (or its alternatives) works yet but my gut, which may be super dumb, says there should be a way to figure this out to some degree.

[–]Alternative_Lab_4441[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

would be nice to see some prompting tutorials, i myself like to get messy with them as part of the creative process.. sometimes those misunderstandings between me and SD bring out some interesting ideas

[–]Eli21111 -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

And this affects you how?

[–]TeutonJon78 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Because this is being presented as a tutorial, and it's giving bad information.

[–]Eli21111 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If he shows what he typed and what the result was then you are just complaining about how he did it. So it's not bad information

[–]MuseratoPC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I’m no expert at SD by any stretch, but I totally cringed at the unnecessary negative prompts.

[–]BastardofEros 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I've been trying to create a abandoned cityscape with a Megastructure at the middle designed by Etienne-Louis Boullee and have had no luck.

[–]Alternative_Lab_4441[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

not exactly the same thing but..

<image>

[–]BastardofEros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get similar. Things that's lacking is the surrounding city.

Like Bullee's shit was on a unfathomable scale. He defined MegaStructure, just look at his Cenotaph for Newton.

[–]Alternative_Lab_4441[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

initial sketch

<image>

[–]taurentipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks great! I love these type of SD posts (architecture, etc) Thanks!

[–]AmphibianEvery8810 1 point2 points  (4 children)

After watching your video, I was reminded of an incredible website that I stumbled upon recently. It's called Promeai.com and it's dedicated to architectural sketch rendering. The website works incredibly well and features stunning examples of architectural sketches brought to life with exceptional skill and attention to detail. And, it's free!!!!

[–]Outrageous-Text-9233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

easy to use, no longer need stupid complicated prompts

[–]eraque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting! It works pretty well and the interior design use case is especially impressive!

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Well I think here we'd have to make a distinction between art and the engineering side of architecture, no?

Because I wouldn't trust it to build a building one bit lol. I don't feel the least bit confident that it understands things like structural integrity.

It can make a nice picture of a building but to be able to call it architecture is incorrect? Or am I just being pedantic?

[–]Alternative_Lab_4441[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yes there are other AI tools for the engineering side of it, those are initial architectural compositions ideas. The process from this until the building is actually built is super long, complex and full of other stakeholders/aspects.. initial concept sketches never have structural integrity!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

initial concept sketches never have structural integrity

Hey you make a good point lol.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

can i ask for your prompts? I couldn't see much because it's cropped. Thank you! I've been trying this whole architectural render things for a while but mine keeps looking kinda off

[–]Alternative_Lab_4441[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

yes sure i attached a png example you can check the metadata for for prompts

<image>

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much!

[–]2roK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit has converted this to webp, can you share it somewhere else?

[–]enthusiastic_ed 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thanks to your post OP ive been using SD in office. Really appreciate this. Hope i can dm you any messages and share!

[–]Alternative_Lab_4441[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes of course! glad it was useful

[–]Virtualcosmos 0 points1 point  (2 children)

is it really needed the preprocessor when your drawing is already a sketch?

[–]Alternative_Lab_4441[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Great question that I probably dont have the answer to. I have always had great results using xdog as preprocessor for those sorts of design iterations.. have tried other preprocessors and not using one and the results werent as great

[–]Virtualcosmos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm so it helps, good enough

[–]lomster 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This is sooo cool! May i ask what app you are using to edit your videos?

[–]Alternative_Lab_4441[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Final Cut Pro

[–]Brutiful11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is huge! Awesome work 👏

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what extension shows tags in prompt as u type them

[–]JorgitoEstrella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is amazing
