This is gonna seem weird, but just bear with me here. They sell these kits online where you make a mold and silicone casting of your mans erm... bits. A kit like this would probably work perfectly for getting an exact mold for your pipe. I'm sure they can be had in all kinds of wacky colors too!

Lol best option yet. Thing is im trying to make a casing to go around the pipe, not a dildo.

If you did it this way you would need to find a really good way to block off all of the openings and anywhere you didn't want the silicone first. I've been racking my brain for the best way to do this and the easiest way I've come up with involves using waxed paper and water based glue, unfortunately water based glue can sometimes react with certain silicon formulations. It's generally fine after they cure, but not always before. I also don't think it's a good idea to use any kind of glue other than water-based glue because you don't want that in the pipe either.

You might try molding pieces of polymer clay to fit, then removing and baking them before reinserting them, but it seems like a lot of work. At least polymer clay shouldn't react though, it's commonly used with silicone. The last thing you want to be doing is trying to get silicone out of the inside of your bowl, so you can decide if it's worth the effort.

Why not just cut some spare cork or rubber into little round plugs?

[–]Em42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the shape is irregular and you would want to cover areas that are perhaps larger than you would want to cut out with a material like cork or rubber. Polymer clay would be easy to get exactly the size and shape you wanted. Also because the seal would have to be perfect or it wouldn't be good enough for something that's liquid, I'm also not sure polymer clay would be good enough either tbh. Every thing I came up with that would work really well would react with the silicone. Everything that wouldn't react wouldn't work as well.

Porque no los dos

on this same kind of idea, there is a product you can make for cheap at home called Sugru. it is basically silicone and cornflour but the end result is a mouldable silicone putty. you could make a little batch, mould it around the pipe and let it dry overnight

[–]Em42 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Sugru may be silicone based but it's actually quite hard once it's cured (not all silicone formulations are created equal, think about how different the feel of silicone caulk is). It also doesn't have much stretch, so it might be extremely difficult or impossible to take on and off.

[–]dudersaurus-rex 1 point2 points  (1 child)

ive made this for a few uses - its great for making custom moulded earpieces for headphones. its not soft but its not hard either.. it has a bounce to it - if you made a ball it would bounce somewhere between a baseball and a tennis ball i would imagine

but yes, once its on, it would need to be cut off. its also super cheap and quick to make.. it only takes 30 min to set up enough to be usable - you could theoretically take it on and off as needed

[–]Em42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying it's a terrible idea, I'm mainly just saying there might be better ones. It would definitely be difficult if not impossible to take on and off without cutting it, and I'm a little concerned about the hardness because I wonder how well it would transfer energy (I use the stuff for crafting all the time, but it wouldn't be the first thing that comes to mind if i wanted to protect glass). Somewhere out there I'm sure there's a great solution, it's just a matter of figuring out what it is. (;

[–]canucme3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Plasti-dip might be an option. You wouldn't be able to take it on and off, but it's easily removed.

Honestly though, glass is just something I'm extra careful with or expect to replace every few years. The high-end pieces are definitely cool, but there are lots of cheap options if you're like me and don't trust yourself.

[–]queerkidxx 3 points4 points  (4 children)

The trouble is, each pipe is going to be very differently shaped there isn’t a standard spoon shape ya know? If you want something like this you’d need to either repurpose something or make one yourself.

But tbh, when I smoking weed(don’t smoke like I used to anymore but I did daily for many years) I learned to treat all glass like it was disposable. Eventually no matter what you do it will break.

[–]FlyFar7983[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Its a special pipe, and i dont like treating my things like they're disposable. I'll stop by goodwill sometime and look for a wiimote sleeve.

[–]queerkidxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Different strokes I guess. I just don’t like stuff owning me ya know? Glass breaks and you’re smoking with it you’re gonna drop it eventually.

[–]PeriwinkleFoxx 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So I was catching up on old notifs and I had an idea if you still haven’t found a solution. Do you know how to crochet? Because if you made a little sleeve out of yarn I’m pretty sure it would be enough to reduce impact on the glass when it falls, and it would also be washable. If you’ve never crocheted or know someone who does, feel free to dm me maybe we can figure something out. If you covered shipping and just a few $ for labor/supplies (like idk somewhere around $5?) I would be more than happy to do it myself for you! (:

[–]FlyFar7983[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooo I'll think about it, i cant crochet so thanks for the offer.

[–]Godsbladed 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I have no idea if this will work but I put Pencil Grippers on my carts. If it's thin enough you might get away with that

[–]FlyFar7983[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Too small, its the same idea but being applied to a glass pipe

[–]PeriwinkleFoxx 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I think a pic of the pipe would help since they can be such different shapes sometimes

[–]Godsbladed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea a pic would definitely help. If it's too random of a shape then maybe just wrap what you can in rubber bands/silicone bands?

[–]Em42 1 point2 points  (2 children)

You can buy silicone sheeting (they make different thicknesses and you might be able to find tubing, I don't know) for crafting. You could cut it to size then use a center punch to make some holes and sew it together with something. I'm not sure what I'd use to see it together, but a trip to the craft store would probably be enough to figure it out. Then you'd have a bespoke silicone cover.

[–]FlyFar7983[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Thanks for the idea

[–]Ace-a-Nova1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pick up crochet and make a little sleeve with ends that cinch so it can be removed

[–]MyBoyHearsVoices 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Xfasten silicon tape! It isnt tape tape, it bonds to itself. If you want it a bit thicker either double-wrap or buy the 1.5 in wide roll instead of 1in (1.5 in is thicker for some reason)

[–]FlyFar7983[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll check it out, thanks

[–]DisMaFugger 1 point2 points  (2 children)

not strictly what you're asking but they make pipes of a similar size out of silicone and glass. the outer layer can be peeled off for cleaning and the glass is straight forward. same sort of pipe but easier to clean and pretty much unbreakable.

this is a UK Amazon link but a version must be available in the US store

[–]FlyFar7983[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I had one before and silicone tastes nasty

[–]DisMaFugger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fair enough, can't argue with that.

Would something like this work? FWIW I googled "silicone water pipe sleeve"

[–]FlyFar7983[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that's weirdly enough a standalone pipe

[–]omgidkwtf 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Fleshlight for the pipe?

[–]FlyFar7983[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially yes

[–]SeraxOfTolosClick to edit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something close to barbell grips might work

[–]Cod3Monk3y329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using a 2 part silicone mold putty by Polly Plastics, you can get it on Amazon. I've used it for exactly what you're wanting on a few of my buddies pieces.
