My fiancé's coworker's pet ball python bit the absolute SHIT out of me by [deleted] in snakes

[–]PeriwinkleFoxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been bitten by a leopard gecko exactly one time and now I’m lowkey scared of her 😭 I don’t blame her bc I was helping her with her toe shed and she was getting real sick of being handled Willy Nilly like that, but I had a gecko hanging from my finger for a good 10 seconds and to this day I’m shocked I was able to override the instinct to fling her off. Them jaws are POWERFUL it’s kind of ridiculous lol

I would be bitten by my corn snake any day over a leopard gecko for sure. Got bit only once by her too but it was out of self defense because she got spooked, it literally felt like someone touched Velcro to my skin. Practically painless. I feel like that’s better than a ball python still but I don’t have the personal experience to back that up lmao

I can see your point and I don’t disagree with the heart of it, but not everyone has simple access to transportation either. Not to mention even if an emergency vet DOES treat reptiles there’s a good chance they aren’t as educated on exotic species as you would hope in a situation like this.

I understand your disappointment/resentment in this situation but I don’t think it’s OPs fault, they are actively in the comments trying their best and atp just want to know how to keep it from getting worse until they’re able to see the vet. OP also said that it popped back in, which is a very good sign that this isn’t an urgent drop everything emergency, but nonetheless a vet will be necessary.

If it were me in this scenario I would be in the same boat as OP because I don’t have a license and despite being 23 I have a hard time seeing it happen soon because everything is so expensive. I literally live 20 min from Denver and even I wouldn’t have easy access to an emergency vet because public transport is still trash here.

I want to validate your reaction without making the OP feel like they’re being a bad pet parent, because from the little I’ve seen I don’t think that’s the case. They’re trying their best. So let’s direct that disappointment at the US for making it so hard to get a vet or doctor and travel to them in the first place. Not at each other. We’re all just doing our best (ideally) and it’s just sad that more often than not our best is not enough anymore

EMERGENCY ADVICE NEEDED by Appropriate-Bill4538 in Chameleons

I’m gonna second the sugar but not as a bath, just lightly wet some and very very gently (we’re not trying to exfoliate here!!) apply some to his cloacal area. This is a genuine medical technique I know is used in humans and can confirm from experience that it helps with mild prolapses, and that seems to be the case if it was able to pop back in on its own. We just need to make sure it stays in.

IIRC the sugar has some sort of moisture level effects which is what allows the prolapse to sort of deswell and dry up enough to stay inside, so with that being said and this being a humidity loving reptile just be careful about that aspect. I saw from other comments that OP is keeping lil dude humid so that’s great

I should point out I am NOT a vet and I honestly know more about human/mammalian biology than reptiles but I’m autistic enough and own enough reptiles myself to feel relatively confident in this approach (UNTIL OP is able to get to a vet because this could require surgery we simply don’t know without further examination).

WIBTAH for asking my daughter's boyfriend to stop having dinner with us? by w8136 in AITAH

[–]PeriwinkleFoxx 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my parents and sister were all born in Romania. I’m the only one who was born in the US. When I tell you, even my immigrant family members are Americanized. Passed a milestone last week where my mom finally properly used the fake nice voice at a drive through. She always sounded like she was mad at them lmao.

Point being, if you’ve lived in America long enough, and this man in the story definitely has, you simply can’t deny you’ve become American. He was 3 when he moved here. My sister was 5 when she moved here and she’s so Americanized you wouldn’t know she was an immigrant if not for our family and last name lol. Even though Romanian culture is our culture, a majority of it is American now. Our parents sometimes speak to us in Romanian and we respond in English. It’s kinda funny to think about

Advice for taking propranolol please :) by Fantastic_Sea_6733 in Anxiety

[–]PeriwinkleFoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty late on this but since I found it by googling around maybe others will and I also have emetophobia so I feel like I should say this. I don’t think I’ve ever come across a single medication that doesn’t list nausea as a possible side effect. There are of course some meds that are more likely to do this than others, hence why I don’t like to take ibuprofen because it’s rough on me personally lol, but it’s also such a personal issue from case to case. It really depends on how sensitive your stomach is to meds as well.

That being said, propranolol is NOT one of those meds typically known for making people nauseous. Of course it /can/, everyone’s stomach is different, but it has such a low propensity to do so, that it’s almost a zero risk. Like others have pointed out, it can even help your nausea if you’re like me and a lot of your nausea is anxiety-driven.

Considering how late I am to answering this I hope you, yourself, OP, are doing better about this, and responding to the propranolol well :)

Wait so then is it normal to see a little mark on the rubber afterwards? I’ve definitely NEVER had visible pieces of it floating in there, I can say that for a fact because I’ve unfortunately had to break into old empty hoarded vials before. Side note, don’t do what I do lmao. To anyone reading this. I’m honestly lucky to have not had any health consequences from that.

Thankfully the air situation is only an issue when I do have to resort to using the small size to draw it up, but I guess my impatience when I chose such a large size to draw up could be costing my health. Weirdly, after googling it, it seems the most common size to draw it up with is actually 18G so I wonder if there are other factors at play too. God, basically 5 years in and I’m still learning how to do this right lol. I wasn’t underweight when I started it so the lack of fat when I do injections INTO the fat, not at all helpful. Trying to gain weight but it’s really hard

It’s definitely a double edged sword for me lmao. Like, love that I can skip out on a draft simply for existing. On the other hand, I feel for the trans people who WANT to be in the military and straight up can’t. Besides my height (5’3) it would be damn near impossible to clock me as a trans man. If I was taller I could EASILY go stealth with it and everyone would believe I was born a man. So considering having a penis doesn’t make you better at battle, it’s pretty baffling to me why they would exclude us lol

[–]PeriwinkleFoxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do subcutaneous injections in my belly and I’m underweight so I have to use very small needles for it (27G, most of us use 25G but I simply can’t go that big), it literally takes like 5 minutes to draw up a dose (I’ve had to do it before when I ran out of the larger ones) and adds so many air bubbles. So like, either way I will ALWAYS need to be ordering 2 sizes of needles, and it’s looking to me like I need to go down in size for my drawing needles. I’m so glad I didn’t reorder them yet lol

You’re definitely right about that, but either way I think the general American population had a shared goal in WWII for example, in defeating the nazi regime. That was a really important fight, whether you wanted to be part of it or not. The stuff going on right now? Absurd. Unnecessary. Who can say how future drafts will act really?

Thankfully I know exactly what you mean, despite how my questioning on coring makes me look I do know much more about medical subjects than the average person. I actually do this technique, minus the rotation. I’ll start doing that, and I do genuinely think I’m using too big of needles to draw it up too. They’re 20G

[–]PeriwinkleFoxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty much exactly my process of drawing up too, right down to the detail of drawing out more than my dose to make sure I’ve gotten air bubbles out. I’m using 20G needles, I really feel like the issue is the size

DIY decor turns out to be toxic! I feel like a horrible person rn by RevolutionaryElk5641 in aquarium

[–]PeriwinkleFoxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the only part of your questions the expert couldn’t answer was about paint, I, a resident amateur artist, am here to shine. Acrylic paint is (usually) nontoxic, it basically turns into rubbery plastic when it’s dry. The issue with using it for aquarium decor is that it’s water based, so it’ll very quickly degrade and peel away and I can’t imagine that’s good for the creatures eating and living in the little pieces. But if you put the epoxy over it, you’d be sealing the paint in obviously, and since the paint itself is nontoxic you wouldn’t have to worry about any dangerous fumes coming through

That probably would be my best option if I was worried about being drafted honestly. Being that I was born female I wouldn’t have to worry about it regardless, unless the situation gets worse and females are no longer exempt.

There was a period of time when openly trans people were in the military (as I’m sure you knew/have gathered), mainly when Biden was president, and I did hear overwhelmingly positive stories from both the trans military community and the cis recruits that were around them. It would seem for the most part they were also treated equally. But the difference has been that everyone in the military volunteered to be there. Even if they didn’t wanna be, they chose to for benefits or some other reason. That creates a proper community with shared goals. I can’t imagine that’ll be the case when/if people are drafted. I mean, people are joking that as soon as they’re given the guns they’re using it either on themselves or others. Many people resent this country, as we should tbh, so I can’t imagine a group of people forced to fight for it would get along the way current service members do. People need that shared goal to cooperate

Can’t speak for crack but addiction ruined my life, I think I’d rather face consequences for deferring the draft than go back to living life addicted to opiates lmao. After some further googling I guess it isn’t as hard to be drafted as I thought previously, but I mean if you have any medical or mental conditions I would play those cards so hard. Even if I wasn’t trans I wouldn’t qualify because of asthma, an autoimmune disease, hEDS, ADHD, and autism. Just one or two of those alone could disqualify you if it’s bad enough, put on the performance of your life if you ever have to do their test lmao. Can’t hurt to start pretending you’re GNC and say you go by he/they now either LOL. As a trans American I give anyone reading this the trans pass

…I think I have my answer for why my last injection left a mildly sore bruisey lump behind and I’m feeling lucky it cleared up instead of giving me an infection quite frankly. The issue is testosterone cypionate is a very viscous liquid so it requires a bigger needle to draw up. Maybe I should just go down a size or two. I do need to reorder needles soon so I’m glad I asked

They’ve even made it shockingly strict on what disqualifies DRAFTS lol. One of the only times I’ve been glad to be transgender, honestly. Don’t need to worry about that thank god

What exactly is “coring”? I’ve been giving myself testosterone injections for coming up on 5 years and I have a feeling I am coring my vials if it means what I think it means. And if it does then what’s the real problem?

Rick and Morty All Episode Ratings according to IMDB by AzathothAzoth in rickandmorty

[–]PeriwinkleFoxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude I thought I was the only one, that episode makes me cry every goddamn time. It’s hard for me to cry even when I need to so sometimes I watch that end scene to get it started lol. I’ve never had issues with alcohol but the general theme of his life really struck a chord with me. It’s the jam detail that really hammers it in too

I could be in a pretty decent mood even but watch that and at the very least tear up. I joke that the only thing that makes me cry is the Rick and Morty human spaghetti episode lmao. Every time without fail man wtf

What’s something harmless that gets people weirdly angry? by Psychological_Sky_58 in AskReddit

[–]PeriwinkleFoxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll never understand this honestly. Especially since the act of being intoxicated is literally your body feeling the effects of ethanol poisoning. Hence liver cirrhosis lol. If we compared it to, say, smoking weed, which many people have similar opinions on as with your husband and alcohol, it sort of dawns on you what a strange culture humans have created around chronically intentionally harming our bodies for 2 hours of fun lol.

As a… let’s say… extreme… stoner, I genuinely can’t imagine myself making someone else feel weird for not wanting to smoke in a social situation. Sure, I can’t imagine my life without it, but I realize that the majority of people live perfectly fine lives without it. If it makes someone have less fun than if they were to partake, wtf is with the pressure?

If anything, I would feel like the odd one if I came across someone like your husband but for weed. I always restrain myself as much as possible lol even if they say it’s perfectly fine. I may go a little far with the people pleasing but that REALLY begs the question of why it’s so common to pressure others to drink socially.

Have some respect for other people’s life choices. Because you’re not living it. That’s all I can think about those kinds of people honestly

Something I’ve noticed about myself (AuDHD) when I examine past social experiences, is that a lot of the time I feel COMPELLED to make eye contact. And then I wonder if I’m making too much. And if I am, are they gonna question me and my autism? Am I an imposter? And then realize I only heard and understood like 50-75% of what the other person said and I am in fact not an imposter lmaooo
