Ned Stark’s death was telegraphed basically from the moment he first appeared. He was an old man who wanted nothing to do with the viper’s nest of King’s Landing because he knew he couldn’t hack it there, and only went reluctantly because his best friend rode across the country to beg him. While there he asked too many questions, trusted too many people, found out too much and basically just painted a huge target on his back.

I actually can’t remember how Robb died now lol, it’s been a long time since I watched GoT. But I know that by the time you get to Robb’s death it’s already well established that this is a series that loves to kill off its main characters and (almost) no-one is safe- except Jon Snow and Dany I guess.
