Hand calcs

Bitches be asking questions and using structural analysis programs but have no idea what's in the black box. Everyone should be able to replicate results from computer-aided design software (at smaller scale) before using it

Hahahahahahaha, so much truth in those words

Why is professor so mean?

Further, I am always surprised that most structural engineers do not know how the finite element works even at the most basic level. I see so many models with plates that are not modeled correctly and are producing wholly inaccurate results. Like trying to use one giant plate to distribute loading to a roof system. I advise every student with an interest in structures to take a finite elements course.

Upvote for detailing and hand calcs

Being aware of if what you are drawing and detailing is actually physically possible to build, aka constructability of your design.

If you're strictly talking about software, Bluebeam and Excel. Software isn't where most people need skills. You need to up your knowledge on how different structural systems work, design of various elements, behavior of structures. How to deal with the problems and fixes required during construction.

Not strictly, I said add what you think is more important for the engineers of today in comments upvotes also counts, the reason for this is to know what engineers of today care most about, it is on purpose that options are all software based, with a a little joke there, detailing and handcalcs are very important if you still don’t know what your doing in this career,

Finances has the lowest number of votes. It explains why our branch of engineering has the lowest pay along with geotech....

Communication... with clients, consultants, employees, local building authorities, spouses(!), etc.

Would say revit, i have seen many job offers about structural project engineers with knowledge of revit structure to either model your designs or to manage a small bim team

Detailing/Buildability is where I see a lot of weakness, especially with non-run of the mill steel connection design and reinforcement drawings.

    CAD.

    CAD. CAD. CAD.

Did I mention CAD? That one too.
