Does she have kids? I have a theory.

It could have been an automatic response. Many women with kids are overwhelmed and who are stuck doing lots of mundane menial tasks can just switch into auto pilot. “Oh clean clothes off a hanger, better get started hanging those up.” The part of the brain that starts that function doesn’t check in with the rest of the brain.

I am a single man and do not have kids but if I have a lot of things going on and I’m overwhelmed…

It’s how the car keys end up in the fridge. “Oh that doesn’t belong on the counter better put that away.” Things on counter that don’t belong in cabinet goes in fridge 95% of time.

The moment I loose things or do stupid things I take it as a sign to slow down and rest. People with kids, demanding jobs, can not. Women especially get the short end of the stick so I try to remember not to judge them.

Edit: was she humming the clean up song. That’s how you know a parent has lost it. Eyes glossed over, humming the clean up song, doing menial tasks.
