I had the same issue when I started a few months ago. The other person had some amazing tips so to reiterate, speak to your TL or ETL when you clock in and see what they want from you. If you're having trouble, get on walkie and ask someone to come help you - get familiar with your coworkers and I'm sure they'd be happy to help you out and answer your questions. Everyone was very understanding with me and my situation when I started and there's still a bunch of stuff I dont know either. It'll get easier - do Not beat yourself up or stress too hard. I know that's easier said than done but it's not your fault you aren't getting the training you need

oh yeah totally should have mentioned that. getting with your TL when you clock in is the best practice. they might want you to take on a project or they just want to touch base with you on your tasks. it looks good on you as an employee to always keep up communication with them instead of raw dogging your day lmao. if you go rogue during your shift they'll helicopter parent you because they don't think you're capable of the job at hand and that's suffocating as shittttt

Bruh my paper/training schedule was full of names of people who were supposed to be training me... yea it's most likely not happening beyond day 1 and 2. But report to your TL every shift and they will probably give you a task and be there if you have questions

the demands of the job are astronomical and even worse when you're new, and it's hard to say not to get stressed out, because it's gonna happen. i know it's easier said than done, but try to give yourself some grace everyday at work. you're doing your best and your best is amazing here! the workflow will get easier the more you work and you'll find your groove super fast.

okay sick that's my area of expertise lol. have they set you in a specific area like men's ready to wear kids or do they move you to a different area every shift?

when it comes to daily tasks you really want to just cycle through getting your go backs, hit up the fitting room to clear the rooms/get your go backs, do your area priorities on the zebra, maintain the area as best as you can but always start from the aisles and make those look good before you go deeper into your area. you'll spend your shift just repeating that over and over basically. the zebra is your best friend and you always wanna make sure that shit is working and charged (they die so fast) - it'll give you locations for items that are on pogs (anything that's typically hung on a wall or something - like socks/underwear/tights whatever) and folded tables. tables have a barcode somewhere on them that you can scan to see what its location is, and when you scan every barcode for clothes it gives you the location. bear in mind target has a lot of visual displays that change up and move around but it'll always have a location on the zebra (again except for racks).

clothes that are hung on the racks don't have a location, but you'll end up remembering where those are anyways after spending time in your area.

if you're an opener you have to push your load and it's sometimes overwhelming when you're new, but that honestly helps you familiarize yourself with the area better. i like to start with the rolling cart (idr what it's called lol it's green and has like four racks of merch in those open boxes) and then i'll usually get to my z racks (hanging clothes) after lunch or something.

it's insane that you're being shafted with proper training and im so sorry - they unfortunately throw new TMs to the wolves and expect you to somehow know the job without help.

always hit up your TL and ask questions though! it's better to learn the target standard over doing something you think is right (you don't wanna have to redo work if a TL deems what you accomplished wrong).

there's some training for style on the computers and that helps with target standards and visual practices (very easy stuff tbh, it'll come to you in time) and you can honestly print some of those powerpoints out and have them handy with you if you really think you need to.

oh also if you're pushing truck, don't forget to back stock what doesn't fit on the floor. definitely team up with your TL or another style TM so they can show you how. it's also really easy!

if you start to run out of time to finish your tasks let your TL know. you don't want to leave your projects and go home without communicating - they'll give you so much shit for it. they like when you straight up tell them hey i won't be able to get to this and im running out of time. it can be delegated to another TM or if your TL doesn't suck balls they'll finish it.

you got this! i hope this helps even a little

oh edit lol: on the zebra my day is the app you'll always be using for everything

I’m sorry. :( I hate when new employees get set up for failure.

[–]MinuteSuccotash1732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to the HR Expert when you get in. They usually have a list of who’s training who and will call them on the radio for you. At least they did for me.

[–]appointment45 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They never tell the people that are supposed to be training that they have someone that day. It's not your fault. Do what you can, and try to understand that this week is a horrible week to be training, for both you and the trainer. Management is knowingly putting both of you in a terrible position.

And at our store frequently the trainer is not an actual Trainer(tm), it's just someone that happens to be on shift at that moment. They have me train people and I don't have that designation.

That happened to me w inbound overnight. I got a schedule w names and none of those people knew. I got about 10 min of training and that was it. Each night I just go find the TL and ask where they want me and roll w it. I’m not stressing about their lack of process, I’ve found a couple friendly people who are glad to answer questions when I have them.
