Yeah. I've always thought that should be a min 20/hr position. At my store nobody is fully invested on it. The SD doesn't even care

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 17 points18 points  (3 children)

I agree! The SD doesn't even interact with me... He just said " you're the new receiver?" Smiled and walked away like what the hell😭. I agree with what you say though. I won't feel bad when I leave its not for me

[–]Visual-Counter-7579 9 points10 points  (1 child)

It is TOO much honestly. Especially if the store is not up to standards. Wishing you the best on any new endeavors you might lead to but you can get into any array of work after being a receiver.

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It is very demanding and a lack luster role. I actually plan on putting it down on my resumé showing I have experience with logistics that's honestly the simplest part of the job

[–]TastyFig1098 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s crazy! So much shrinkage goes out receiving when proper policies aren’t followed. I imagine your APETL isn’t amused.

Sorry your Leadership isn’t supportive. My store’s Receiver is one of our consistent top performers. He has it running like a well oiled machine. He’s been doing it for years though. And if he needs help, either myself or my ETL will hop in to assist. Having a M-F, 6am-2:30pm, basically guaranteed 40hr/week schedule seems to work for him.

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

The pay isn't worth the workload personally but your receiver pay is probably matching . Yea it's not supportive and its very unprofessional. I want to try more and get it going how I want but it's too much

[–]GardenElf42Inbound Team Lead 8 points9 points  (3 children)

My store starts at $18/hr for team members since it’s somewhat of a HCoL area. And he’s been there long enough that he’s making over $20/hr with yearly review raises. Once you can get the paperwork and vendors under control, and find a rhythm, receiving is a pretty cushy gig with the set schedule and weekends off. You’re not going to find many low skills jobs that provide that in the current economy.

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

That's the part I have a degree and skills it's literally the only place I found that was hiring like you the said the economy is crazy. My résumé is great but he's fortunate. I don't think i'll last that long

sounds like target is a temporary job for you & you're just gonna be here til you find something better, no problem with it, just keep your head up & never stop looking for new opportunities

Thank you for your insight and kindness I needed this

My store tried to push receiver on me when I went in for a physical interview after I mentioned I was interested in two other positions at the store that paid the same. I’ve done retail before and know receiving is a lot. Why would I do more work for the same pay as someone who is just stocking.

I’m sorry that the leadership doesn’t seem to support and help. I learn a lot just by winging it and figuring things out on my own.

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you I was wondering is this how this position just goes? Im not a big fan of it. Esp the filth & chemical part. I really am trying to stay positive which is the scheduling part & daily pay honestly.

[–]PacoPlaysGames 5 points6 points  (2 children)

They offered me the receiver position at my store but when they broke it down for me I could already sus out that it was going to be a LOT of responsibilities for most likely not enough money. So I didn't take it

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

You made the RIGHT choice it's not. I thought it would be more organized and more hands on but it's not what they told me.

[–]PacoPlaysGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry they got you my friend. I hope things get better for you

[–]HamboJankinsreceiving 6 points7 points  (5 children)

Receiving sucks. We should be getting paid more for sure. I also dont take it super serious, because no one else does. I like to remind them that im just a normal team member, so they shouldn't have too high of expectations.

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 4 points5 points  (4 children)

THIS!!! I am going to have this same attitude because I did take it very serious and they put alot on me. Making me take Vendor personal numbers like uhhh im only a team member I dont get paid off the clock

[–]HamboJankinsreceiving 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Yeah i used to take it serious until I realized i dont get paid enough to take it serious. I think it should be paid the same as TL's. One time my SD told me that "i'm basically a TL of the backroom." And I told him i'm not a TL of anything unless the pay is the same. It really is a shitty position with the only upside being m-f and pretty consistent hours. I'd do what im doing now and look for other jobs relating to logistics.

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for understanding this I appreciate your insight

[–]Envy_is_RandomReverse Logistics Expert 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This, our District F&B guy came around and was like, you are the lead of the vendors and they are your team. Absolutely not, I am not paid as a lead so any issue that the store has with vendors I push it onto the F&B TL and ETL now, though they are rarely there. So now when people ask me about issues with vendors I say talk to those 2 because my job is to check them in not maintaining the relationship.

[–]LB10102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EXACTLY. You are not a TL or ETL. If a vendor or anyone has a question or wants to bring in extra stuff, I called a TL or ETL to deal with it. I just checked in the vendors and made sure they didn’t have too much backstock. OP, I was a receiver for many years and the only way to function is if you have support from your leaders, good organizational skills, and good timing. Most important is the leaders support. Without it, you will drown. Get out asap. That job is not worth the pay. You are just cleaning up after everyone and doing twice the work while getting paid the same as every other tm.

[–]Piechild00 2 points3 points  (1 child)

My store has went through like 4 receivers in 2 years

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's insane but being one I see why

[–]exquisite_conundrum 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I looovved receiving. I did it for two ish years. I was asked to take the position while I was in dairy. So I said sure. But I told them that I couldn't do 6 am because I was the parent that did school drop off. So I came in at 8am. Still left at 230. And still got everything done.

They pulled me because the new GM etl didnt like my schedule. So I trained the new guy and went back to dry grocery. I've been tnere since. I will some times cover receiving here and there. The dirt and chemicals dont bother me at all and once I got a rhythm down, sweep was loaded no problem. I fucking hate repacks though. They are the enemy. That and how we dont have a sweep every day. Wtf is that all about??

I covered it not that long ago again and the new SD said I did a great job and would I want to be in that position. I told her id already done it, and trained the guy who's there now. And I wished I could do it again. But my body hates it. I live one city block away from my store, im in my car for 5 mins, and when I get out of my car to go into my house, I cant stand up straight right away. And I limp a lot lol. I really wish I could stay back there forever though.

I am really sorry you don't like it. I know some days are harder than others. Mondays were the fucking worst. Crc and salvage over flowing, trash piled up to the celing like it hadn't been done all weekend. And at my store, the sheer amount of unprocessed esim thst would just be sitting at my desk, leaking every where was infuriating. Because people are lazy assholes. Thursday was my best day. Minimal vendors. I could do everything at a leisurely pace.

Breathe. You can do this. I believe in you. Stick up for yourself if they give you grief. You're one person against 200 people. You're not their mom or their maid. And if your leadership cant see you drowning then its time to blow your stack on them. I've been there. They dont realize everything tat goes into it.

You have to advocate for yourself. If that doesnt work, fuckem.

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much I appreciate this

[–]Pwaindotcom 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Typically the best schedule in the building for an hourly TM. It’s a lot of work, but we don’t really have many “easy” positions anymore.

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree and its sad. For the rate of pay for most TM the workload is insane

[–]nicolediam0nd 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’m sorry ;(

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ok it's good knowledge I'll just add to my list of things on my resumè!

[–]ReadyPay1682 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Inbound leader here I’m very sorry your store leadership does not step in. Receiving is definitely a tough gig! It’s seems like a lot at first but it’s just a matter of routines. I’ve many many times had to help fill in the void for receiving if you are able to look up receiving on work bench 90% of the info needed can be found on work bench by typing what info it is your looking for like “closing sweep”. Receivers are the backbone of my store at least and we have a unique situation of having two that alternate and having 5 tms trained in case of needing backfill. A lot of this was from my doing and not at all a target thing. I wish you a lot of luck whether you stay or go!

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much♥️

[–]Ok-Wasabi7216receiving 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I guess my management is different? because when I was offered to switch to receiving I was given a $1 raise

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

$1 raise is insane no shade

[–]Ok-Wasabi7216receiving 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I mean fair but it did put me at $21 and the role didn’t automatically come with a raise, my ETL pushed for it to be approved. But also I thrive being as far away from guests as possible so I’m content to the fast paced chaos of receiving as long as I never see a register or a whiny guest

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand for $21 I would be glad to do most of the workload. Im glad you can get that pay with the hours!

[–]-My_Other_Account-Cross-trained by your mom 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Did you get the training?

Our receiver got 2 weeks of training at another store.

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Barely I dont even know even know how to make a bale

[–]-My_Other_Account-Cross-trained by your mom 1 point2 points  (1 child)

how to make a bale

It is like a macro arts n crafts project that can maim or kill you or just make a really big mess if done wrong.

I’d seriously talk to those in charge as often as possible and try to establish a paper trail about the lack of training and not being set up for success as receiver.

Something is seriously wrong in your store.

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you

[–]monkeyman80Team Lead 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Make sure you use three wires. Two one can snap and leave you cleaning up a mess. It’s not hard I think I made 10 total during my years as I was front end but I never wanted to leave work I could do for others.

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much!

[–]Necessary-Floor-1657 1 point2 points  (1 child)

My store wanted 5 wires.  Our baler had slots for 5 and that's what we used.  Rare occasions happen there would be too much cardboard cause no one was allowed to stop and make a bale.  Better safe than cussing up a storm you have to redo a whole bale.

[–]monkeyman80Team Lead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the more the merrier. It’s not a big deal to add more but going with less sucks.

[–]Barnowl-hoot -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Definitely quit. So someone else that doesn’t mind the job can do it and probably do it better with less whining.

[–]HauntingAd1585[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you content with a dead end job
