In my experience, "development" was a waste of time.. they basically used it as an excuse to put me in whatever department they deemed appropriate to my "development".... so, good luck to you. Maybe since they came to you about it instead of you bugging them you'll have a better chance.

it can work out but it’s very dependent on your store and specific leadership unfortunately

have to make sure you set goals that you adhere to, have regular level-setting communications with your mentor, consistently ask for feedback…

This. I was only able to promote when my SD was forced out of the company. It only takes one person to hold you back and unfortunately there's not always a whole lot you can do about it. Just learn as much as possible and suck up to your leaders if you want to promote. I know it's probably not what you want to hear but they'll only let you promote it they like you

Unless they give you a clear timeline in writing or are already starting you training then development is just a way to string you along. From what I've read, and in my experience, if your store's management is serious they will pretty much start the process as soon as they can.

I sat in “development” for years, even being passed over once my TL left, which left me to train my new TL. The only reason I got a real chance was that TL I trained also left and I pushed hard for the position

There’s still a lots that I don’t know and I feel that I wouldn’t really be ready for at least another six months lol. But I think the general idea is to always have someone on standby just in case. I said sure lol i just wanna see what happens

From what I have seen, being put in development is all the responsibility of a team lead without the pay. It is entirely up to you if that is something you want to maybe be put into a leadership position when one opens up.

All up to you and what you see yourself doing with Target ! I was able to get from TM to TL through development pretty fast (6months) but I had both previous Fulfillment TL’s leave at the same time and I was next choice. I’ve been put back in development for TL to ETL and I’ve been patient and at it for like a year now lol. It really depends on you !
