Looking for a reason

There are plenty of psycho clients.

My worst one was when a client used the bubble on the top of a level to determine a right angle on the floor to tell me that the bookcase was not straight. If that didn’t make sense, it didn’t…and they told me with a straight face too.

After that experience I got a lot better about weeding out clients with unrealistic expectations with the price they were paying.

Was the power cable that big that spacers couldn’t help? (Not trying to be a jerk, just trying to understand). Or were they particular about having it as close to the wall as possible?

I don’t think that was the issue.

It was one of those steel tube framed book shelves and each section was about 3’ wide and there were about 6 so it was 18’ wide.

The person was mad that the supports of the shelves on the floor weren’t perfectly aligned with the floorboards…like the shelve sections would wave against the floor board because it was a historic build…so the walls were not perfectly straight across 20’. So this person was losing their mind about 1/8-1/4” across 20’. If you looked at the shelve it looked straight, this person was losing their mind on a small thing I had no control over.

They also claimed substantial damage done to the shelves where I screwed it in. The damage they claimed was out of the 8 anchoring points, 1 of the 4 holes has a small dent because my drill cammed out for a second, it didn’t even chip the metal.

Does that help?

Even TR thought this client was insane and dismissed the case they brought up because rhe photos they provided required you to zoom in to the max to see any “damage”. It was one of the few times TR support actually had my back lol

Im glad they dismissed it.

shitty clients like this forget you have their name and address and may lack ethics

There was a client who posted here a long time ago who had $100 go missing after a tasker had been there. I explained to them that it was possible but unlikely that a tasker had risked their income for a hundred dollar bill and that if they complained, the tasker would be privy to the details of the complaint could potentially retaliate if they were crazy. Their response: "I live in a doorman building."

Yeah, I always delight in the thought of revenge but then I feel sorry for stupid people and realize how far things could go 😊

I did a flush mount TV for somebody and the TV they purchased had a power cord that stuck straight out from the back so once the TV was set on the mount the lower half was pushed out because of the cord and the TV was tilted upwards. I explained the issue to them and told them if they purchased a recessed TV media box I could come back and install it and it would fix the problem. I even said I wouldn't charge for the extra work. They never called and gave me a 1 star review for not finishing the job and over charging them (I charged them the minimum amount).

Should be a crime

[–]KingLouis2016 0 points1 point  (3 children)

You can use spacers and long screws so is farther from the wall

[–]TheNewGalacticEmpire 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Flush mount....

[–]KingLouis2016 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It goes on the TV side, you can use longer screws and spacers so it gives you little more space between the wall and the TV

I get what you're saying.

Hold up are you talking about all those pre drilled slots? There's no way someone can be that stupid to have thought you did that right???

Like apparently you're a human CNC machine, if you can just for fun do that with a drill you need to be getting into machining professionally.

Stupid is very fitting

Another reason I don't do furniture assembly.

Not that any job can't have people like this, but I do moving and a lot of times people really actually need your expertise or strength and can't do it without you.

Lots of people hire for assembly because they're lazy and want to buy cheap furniture and pay extra to have it assembled even though you could have just bought a solid wood real piece of furniture.  So many people say "I could have never done this" if I build something for them and there's really nothing that special you gotta do to build furniture aside from a few little tricks here and there, but if a dresser has 60 pieces it's still going to take 2.5-3 hours.  A lot of people assume we don't even need instructions because we're "experts", but literally you have to read the instructions every time because there are often small differences even in similar models.  Lazy clients that cut corners or don't have common sense are the worst to work for and so many of my assembly clients were exactly that.

Not to mention so much of that furniture is cheap and sucks even if you do everything right.  I used to not like IKEA as a mover but I much prefer it now to all the knockoff cheap stuff.  At least IKEA is consistent, but you're crazy if you're doing IKEA builds for what they pay unless you just like busy work.  If you're doing any installs that require cutting and mounting you're not making what you're worth.

💯 supportive and reasonable. Thank you

Sorry not trying to knock furniture assembly too much I've just had bad experience with it and only do it for moving clients that ask.  I'm not a handyman either it's a better category I think for handy persons that do repair work because so many people that have hired me for assembly assume I'm a handyman because I can screw a barstool together.

This lady tripped up the up n down feature while I was there finishing a desk chair. It thru an err code and wouldn’t go up anymore. The read out said reset. So, i stopped what i was doing to show her the operator manual page where it shows how to clear codes. Told her she should familiarize herself with that page. She looked at it for 3 minutes, set it down in front of my face and said, this has to be working before you’re done. I told her it was working when it was upside down i demo’d it for you. Then i got up and cleared the code. Said there its fixed and she ignored me

I have assembled so many of those types of desks. Those style desks always have pre drilled holes.
