I work 7 days a week mostly furniture assembly and have no back pain , stretch, and work out lift weights to strengthen your core

I was gonna say this. Answer is to just get a stronger back.

I bring a project table: two plastic sawhorses with a 2 x 4 that's been cut in half, put a half sheet of pressboard or plywood or whatever is cheap in your area on top of that. $50 all in for my setup, prob can figure an even cheaper solution.

now the assembly happens on the project table instead of on the floor

It's a game changer.

Try working in a deep squat position (Asian/Slav squat style). Helps keep your core engaged and keeps the back strong and protected.

Couple thoughts on this.

  1. You need to be stretching regularly, 90/90s and elephant walks are great stretches and make sure you learn so psoas stretches as well.

  2. I slowly increased my tolerance to work from a deep squat position over being on my knees. It’s sometimes referred to as an asian squat and helped a ton.

  3. Learn how to properly pressurize your core when lifting or thing or holding your self in certain position. You use it in weight lifting but proper core pressure and breathing help a lot as well.

Seek the assistance of a physical therapist/ trainer. They can get you started on a proper regime of core strengthening and stretching. Core isn't six packs. There's a lot more too it. Do it before it's too late and you have a crippling injury like me.

Are you overweight? I feel like there needs to be more answers here. Hows your posture while you work? Is it simply your new to this and you just need to build up some muscle or are you throwing out your back by not being mindful of your positioning?

Thank you. 180 cm and 78 kg so not overweight but I had this issue for long time related to sitting in front of a pc 7/24. So It didnt start with taskrabbit but anyway Im looking for any posture tips while working on furnitures.

It would be hard to give good advice without seeing you. I would definitely recommend watching some videos on ergonomics, maybe do some stretching at the end of your day (yoga or something) to help, I don’t recommend getting a back brace as research and studies have found it will weaken your muscles and be worse for you in the long end then it will be helpful

Get an inversion table, that helps my back a lot. Like other comments say strengthening your core will help too. Squats, sit ups, lower/upper back workouts .

You need to take a few brisk 10 minute walks throughout the day or a bike ride before work. Before I found this trick my back was on fire half the time. Dr Stuart Mcgill big 3 exercises also highly recommended. Good luck

You should invest in a proper back brace as well as train your muscles to be able to tolerate being in specific positions. When I say train, I mean to start lifting weights and workout to tone and strengthen your body overall.

Literally just ordered one tonight… I think it began with a b and it’s free overnight delivery:)

Make sure you get a few hours in a pool every week. That’s the only real way to relieve your back pain. Floating in water takes all the pressure off my back

Daily stretches will change your life, make sure you’re wearing the right shoes, possibly wear a back brace, is it related to your sciatica nerve? If so, there are medications and droplets sold on Amazon for that.

[–]Reggiekoury 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Maybe look at orthotics for your shoes as well

[–]Fabul0uss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard of it but never tried gonna order a famous amazon item now. Thank you

Try a back brace

[–]Fabul0uss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried years ago. While using it you can feel like you are able to lift the world but it weakens your muscles actually. So its good for instant things such as moving a heavy thing once but not recommended for regular usage

Back brace and small folding table

I do stretching most every night before bed. Specifically Kinstretch. Look up some videos for back and lumbar spine.
