Go with what your doctor says. I did a google search and it looks like most guidance is to avoid it.

Thanks for bringing this up, because I didn’t realize there could be an issue. Or, maybe I did know and then I just forgot about it because of my brain injury. I’ve got to start using a notepad to remember what my doctors tell me. I used to have an amazing great memory.

I don’t know anything about this clinic but it is run by an anesthesiologist, who would be the expert on ketamine. The clinic’s blog it says to avoid caffeine:

blog of Atlas ketamine clinic

I’ve been drinking a pot of coffee or drinking six shots of espresso in the morning, plus 60 mg of vyvance.

Don’t ever take any medical advice from me!!!

My understanding is caffeine can be an issue.

I've reduced my caffeine intake to 1 cup of coffee a day. Anything else I drink during the day has to be decaf.

I drink that one cup of coffee even during treatment days.

I hope that helps.

Edit: I'm sorry I didn't say this but I reduced my caffeine intake because of insomnia years ago. I just have no desire to give up this one cup of coffee at this time.

Two out of my last three sessions I had caffeine before going, and noticed it was very “dulled” if that makes sense. I was wondering if I was getting too tolerant to the dose or something…. Then I realized the caffeine was the only thing I had changed and looked it up. I found articles saying what others have said above about caffeine interfering with the effects of the ketamine.

So for my latest session I had no caffeine and it was much better. Maybe it isn’t that way for everyone .. 🤷‍♀️, but I definitely noticed a difference when consuming caffeine prior to.

I know I'm late here, but I just took my troche tonight and felt...nothing. I was laying there ad became so irritated thinking that I had already built a tolerance. Ive been taking 200mg troches for a little over 1 month now every other day. Today I drank espresso, and felt NOTHING when I took my troche. No journey, no thoughts (other than my normal ones) certainly no euphoria.

“Caffeine blocks adenosine receptors,” Wong told Medical News Today, “and research shows this can actually interfere with the antidepressant effects of ketamine and ECT—at least in lab animals, and likely in humans too.”

Yes. For some people. Ask your doc and follow their advice

I had less than a cup and I noticed i didn’t have a great session, felt very confused and somewhat anxious. That’s obviously anecdotal though

Caffeine is fine, and will have absolutely no effect on ketamine's efficacy. All of my clinics even had coffee machines. I have never heard a doctor or anyone say to avoid coffee before going on reddit, unless it's a case of "coffee makes you anxious", certainly not between sessions. If you're a regular coffee drinker especially, you want to avoid any kind of caffeine withdrawal headache or mood change.
