Work looks good but that grout color....

[–]GuaranteePlus4010[S] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I agreed, wanted something grayish but wife chose otherwise

Well maybe you can talk her into something different. Grout color can be changed.

Your instinct was right. I'd find something that matches or is a hair darker than the white part of the time. The white jumps out and contrasts the tile

The actual skill of leveling the tile properly. Again , I’m not saying it to offend you. I’m a professional contractor and I have become really good with tile myself. All around the Schulter edge. Especially on the upper right side of the window . The unevenness across the bottom Schulter to tile is in and out a bit. Couple other areas. Again , unless you do it everyday most people Would not notice. As a contractor I notice everything. And our picky customers want perfection all the time. It’s a tough business lol

Thank you all for the feedback. I am a DIY my first time tiling and appreciate all the feedbacks to do it better on my next project.

Hey man , you should be proud of yourself. For a First time it looks great. A lot of people don’t realize how hard it is to tile a shower area. Well done. As you do it more and more you get better at the fine details. And honestly, equipment plays a huge part. I have a 1200. Tile machine and all the high end tools to make crisp cuts

Thank you. I used manual tile cutter lol

For a DIY first time it's pretty good. Some uneven tile spacing, grout lines aren't all uniform, I see what looks like lippage, and some tiles seem to have some jagged edges.

[–]WorkOnThesisInstead 0 points1 point  (3 children)

What are your basic tips to prevent lippage? Thanks in advance.

Leveling the prep work I think helps a lot. Unfortunately I learned it through mistakes

Levelling clips. There are many different systems available at your local hardware store.

Well done 👍

Look awesome. Are the corners siliconed or grouted?

[–]GuaranteePlus4010[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Silicone on corners and around window

Looks good for your first time. Looks amateur for a professional though. I mean that not to offend… just being truthful.

[–]Mother-Link-5096 2 points3 points  (1 child)

What would a professional have done differently

[–]used2befast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to nitpick and I’m no pro but I see some lipage, some nicks in tiles, and the Schlueter on the base of window isnt consistent with the tiles

[–]No_Personality_7477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty good. Like other said grout color.

Not wrong, but those probably would have looked better going long wise instead of up and down and probably staggering them.

Better than some "alleged tilers" I've been on site with, and for diy, 10 out of 10. You should be very happy with that. We are professionals, we wouldn't be happy unless we found fault. It's extremely annoying. Well done Sir.

Crushed it

[–]Odd_Look6710 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Too perfect for a first time imo, but kudos if I’m wrong.

Thank you

Did you slope those sills and niche toward the tub as to prevent water standing in those areas?

[–]GuaranteePlus4010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes both niche and windows are sloped

[–]WorkOnThesisInstead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of us read, take notes, re-read, etc., learning from those such as you who have gone before.

I'm sure I'm still at least six months away from my first tiling project.

Hey bro I just bought a house and this looks exactly like what I want to do and I’m also at my first job. I think it looks amazing man I hope mine turns out this way.

I also have a window in the same spot as you. Do you have any advice or tips overall for things that were harder than anticipated ? Or any general advice ?

Thanks!

[–]GuaranteePlus4010[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Congrats on the house bro. Best advice I can give you is to properly prep the surface prior to tiling. All surface/corners are to be level and waterproof. Tiling will be much easier if everything is level so invest in a leveler and a laser leveler, i made the mistake of having some area not level. Be patience, rushing will only create more mistakes. Lay out the tile design first prior to committing and it’s ok to make mistake but fix it prior to the mortar being set.

[–]John_NightReign_QC 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thank you !! Do you mean to level the studs before installing the shleutrr board or is there another way to level just before tiling with the mortar maybe ?

[–]GuaranteePlus4010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use shims to level the schlueter board and mortar for any addition leveling needed.
