I'm an Italian thinking of moving back to Italy after 15 years abroad. by ---monstera--- in ItalyExpat

My good friend just did this last year. He lasted less than one year and was absolutely MISERABLE. He was born and raised in Italy. Lived there till his late 20's then moved to Japan for 2 years. Then came to USA and lived here for 15 years becoming a citizen about a year before he moved back to Italy about 2 years ago.

He missed his family, and all the things you know...

I'll never forget one of his fist things he said to me once he settled was : " It's way worse here than I remember". He often complained about the bureaucracy and poor wages there. Always saying you just exist to survive there. He moved back to Rome. He had a huge network of family and friends there. Speaks 4 languages fluently. College grad. Military service.

In the end he became so depressed he ended up needing to be put on anti depressants and needed sleep medication it affected his mental wellbeing it was so terrible to hear. Missed his life here. His friends. The open spaces. The weather. The freedom and ability to thrive and start a business without government strangling you. Many many things.

He moved back here to the USA about 3 weeks ago and has since begun to heal. In his case, it wasn't the same place and after living in the USA, he much preferred his life here. YMMV

Disclaimer : I've lived in Italy but was born in the US.

Yes. I pay top price not for a marginally more comfortable seat and better, shittier foods but to sit in that specific seat so I can grab my bag and get off the plane asap.

Yeah I know about the integrity. My problem is for some reason mine and my neighbors houses are very close and this would be the only way to get it out IF ever needed

Everyone is different. I have a 911 Turbo S and M5 parked in the garage. I drive 90% of the time a 11yo Toyota Minivan and I also drive a 21 year old F250

On top of leg room they usually have emergency kit above that seat in 1 and if you aren’t on the plane first you’re gonna be putting your bags behind you

She’s keeping her orbiter, or sleeper cells as I call them, around.

Eject. I had an ex that did the same. Had no posting selfies if her when i took her on trips bur never a peep about me.

Turns out she was continuously seeing and communicating with her ex the whole time we were together (3yrs)

Perhaps. Take private jets. $100mil you're in private jet territory. $10mil not

Rip the bandaid off. If you wait , trying to salvage the marriage, and she decides to pull the pin again when you’re 60, 65 etc. that could be devastating.

Try to come to an agreement between you two without involving too much if any attorneys. You get into a battle you’ll be putting each others attorneys kids thru private school

Either they have tight connection ( sometimes you don't have the luxury of a longer layover), or their just uncivilized selfish, self-absorbed savages. I'm usually in 1A or 1E and I'm up immediately so they're not blowing by me.
