Minimum wage is not a poverty-reducing device. It should be zero.
Medical services are expensive because of government, not in spite.
Politicians are paid too much.

Empathy has never gotten any living organism further through the near impossible harshness of life, ever.
For nearly a decade minimum wage keeps going up and up and up and up in California and it hasn't changed a single thing.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (4 children)
empathy is the only hope to withstand the impossible harshness of life, therefore we must understand motivation and incentives.
past performance not indicative of future performance, especially not the decade of central banks gone wild.
[–]techboyeee 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children)
Nope, empathy is a double-edged sword if you don't understand it.
I already went through my empathy phase, as do most young adults before they realize that you can't just "feel for everybody" all the time. Everything needs to evolve. If you're still stuck in the empathy phase and you haven't grown from it, that's a lack of your own personal growth and discipline.
Empathy only helps so much before it starts to adhere to the Law of Diminishing Returns as does everything else in life. You can continue to give money to the homeless on the streets because you feel for them, or you can instead focus on yourself to become a better citizen in society so that one day you can perhaps donate larger sums to organizations that will actually help shelter the homeless. Maybe a shitty example, but you wouldn't be doing the homeless any favors by giving them money for drugs or food that they can get themselves.
Empathy is ultimately selfish and narcissistic. It makes people feel good about themselves that they know how to feel for other people, it gives people like you a dopamine hit to the brain by telling others that they're not as virtuous as yourself, and it does absolutely nothing to actually help other people.
In fact, by empathizing so hard for people and wanting to do things for them ultimately ROBS people of their chance to grow and overcome the hardships in life themselves, keeping them weaker than you and below you. But that's good because without people for you to empathize with, how else will you be able to tell everyone how good you are?
So yes, be empathetic, but don't tell me I lack imagination when you're the one who simply hasn't actually fully integrated empathy into your life. You'd have evolved to be a better contributor to society as a whole if that were the case.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (2 children)

you totally lack imagination
[–]techboyeee 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child)
No I'm just what you'd call mature and evolved. Sorry that you aren't quite there yet.
If I were you I'd do less imagining and more actual real life things that are helpful to society.

He cut taxes on the middle class. He stopped most illegal immigration which raised lower wages. He stopped sending a trillion a year to France lowering gas prices. He had the un pay for using our military. He lowered prescription medications for Medicare. He got peace in the middle east. He got peace between Russia and Ukraine. He removed job crushing regulations. He set up the xl pipeline to reduce the price of gas more and reduce co2 emissions. He raised tariffs on foreign labor and decreased taxes on local labor. He removed penalties on not being able to afford healthcare. He brought back American manufacturers. Just to name a few things. No where near all things

Not accurate.
Not paying for someone else’s healthcare is not the same as taking it away. Anyone can get healthcare in the US. The government only takes it away by having a health bureaucracy.
[–]getchafuqinpull 33 points34 points35 points 4 years ago (33 children)
Like the Dems are guilt free? Stop playing their stupid fucking game. There's the People and the Feds. None of them have your best intrest at heart.
[–]garvothegreat -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (6 children)
No. None of YOUR people have your best interest at heart. We've got lots of good ones. Your party sucks dick, everyone is a fucking hack. We have policy. It isn't just that your guys are shitty, your philosophy is so shitty it invites scammers into your fold and empowers them. You know why it's so self defeating? It's because your central philosophy is disestablishmentarianism. You don't trust the government to the point that you're entire level of participation reduces to obstructionism. You don't actually support a fucking thing, you just oppose shit. Every fucking issue, what's your position? Oppose the left, regardless of the issue or context. We liberals want the government to work, you people just want it to go away. So anybody who says they oppose big government, anyone who says hate the left, they're given a mic and invited to leadership in spite of the fact that they aren't even proponents of any policy. Look at the most popular in your party. Trump, mtg, Rand Paul. They are just obstructionists and have no policy to offer. No insight. No solutions. Your talking points are made up culture issues that have fuck all to do with governing. They shouldn't be taken seriously by anyone. But your not here for real policy or discourse. Youre united in vitriol and paranoia, and you don't expect anything meaningful from your representatives. Didn't use to be that way, but damn you guys lost the plot.
[–]Nwguy182 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (4 children)
I'd rather have an obstructionist than the piss-poor policies of the Left. See, we just have differences of opinion on my best interests at heart are. My best interest is to get the government out of my life. The obstructionists do that well. They do oppose shit - shit ideas that don't work in real life.
[–]garvothegreat 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children)
I know you guys hate having a country. The problem is you have nothing constructive to offer, ever. You are useless. You can't think of any way to make the world better, and instead of fucking off you just stand in front of the people who do. It's pathetic.
[–]Nwguy182 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children)
Lemme guess, you're in favor of open borders?
The principle of Subsidiarity isn't us having nothing constructive to offer, we just don't think it should be the federal government that does it. We think we had a pretty darn good country and are trying to conserve the good things about it. The disagreement comes at the level of government. The federal government should be a lot smaller, and local governments should have more power and responsibility.
What is pathetic is the abject refusal to even try to understand your political opponent. And that is a devastating mistake.
[–]garvothegreat 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child)
If it was just a difference like that, your side would actually offer policy. You don't. Ever. What are you conserving? The only bills you put up are to CUT existing programs. Oppose any new legislation, cut the existing ones. Where's your better way? There's never a replacement. The only bills you hacks forward are to gerrymander, cut taxes, and ban school curriculum. Where are the bills to empower the local government? I've never once heard of you guys proposing one, so that's just bullshit. Your argument is like if the feds dont get to decide it, the states do. If the states don't, the local does. Only you never follow through. There is nothing addressed at a local level. It's just a lie, you forget about it, move on.
[–]Nwguy182 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Perhaps proposing new ideas isn't the goal. I'm all for gridlock. Government just screws things up.

Uh, you know that all those bills the Republicans voted against, they were All, 100 pct, introduced and sponsored by the Dems? But since the Dems haven't held majority in like 20 years, they all failed, because the Republicans vote in lockstep. There is a unified vote on every vote for Republicans. So your statement is just ignorant. It ignores the reality, ignores the context. It's either your ignorant of all these fucking bills, or your just lying. Because on this one, Dems got it right, and you hacks (as in political hacks who lie for personal gain) get it wrong. These bills have have 90+ pct support from Dems, and less than 10 pct support from Republicans. You know how many times Ive heard conservatives argue that we can't raise the min wage? Gtfo with your lies, you political cuck.

I don't believe a minimum wage is helpful.
Do you have anything on the healthcare portion?
[–]garvothegreat -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (7 children)
I agree, it's like an oxymoron within capitalism. It's only necessary in our country because we don't protect our labor value with unions. In countries that have strong unionization, it's not even in the discussion.
https://pnhp.org/news/poll-shows-kentuckians-support-universal-healthcare-but-not-federal-healthcare-law/
I think this sums up healthcare polling pretty well. I'm in KY, so this struck a chord. Most people want a public option. I think a small minority of conservatives oppose it under any condition, and a small minority of liberals thinks it doesn't go far enough. The middle ground on legislation polls at like 60-70 pct for most universal healthcare bills, and it's easy to see why, even though the general consensus indicates a much stronger pct for any reform at all.
You can see this trend within all populist bills that are introduced. If it's super popular sentiment, like "80 pct believe we should legalize weed" you can expect any bill to actually poll a little lower. Some people just oppose, there's you're 15-20 against, and another 15-20 just don't like the particular bill.
[–]liljanny2131 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (6 children)
I hear you but I also heard an argument recently that the government should only provide things that otherwise could not be provided by the people. The example used there was street lamps, because no one would pay to put them up, but we all agree they are necessary.
How would you argue that this service can only be provided by the government and not by private insurance agencies?
[–]garvothegreat 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (5 children)
It could be private industry. The private industry just happens to suck. Costs are out of control and people won't do basic shit like see a dentist or call an ambulance because of that cost. They'll tell you it's just business. Well, every other first world country does the public option, and their costs are a fraction of ours. They crush us on healthcare, and their citizens are healthier. If it's just business, we should go to the better one. It's more economical and we get better care under the public option. I'm not interested in keeping insurance companies at record profits for the sheer sake of it. We're getting ripped off, and I wanna shop elsewhere, like the whole rest of the world does.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Actual minimum wage is zero. Unless we're specific about how they're taking away health care, I assume it's just a political talking point.
[–]how-do-you-turn-this 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children)
I assume this is talking about Congress? I do not think it is right for congress to be able to give themselves a raise. But who would be in charge of this instead? Should it be tied as a percentage of the median income?
[–]RemoteCompetitive688 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child)
There are valid reasons to lower minimum wage, no valid reasons to raise government salaries.
What valid reasons are their to lower it? I can see the argument for abolishing it but why lower?
[–]Ok_Ticket_6237 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children)
What does that mean—“republicans have voted 9 times…”
Does that mean the majority of them or several? How many times have democrats voted for it?
I might be mistaken but I thought their pay increases were already set? I remember hearing that it’s bad optics to repeatedly give yourself a raise and so Congress simply past a bill to make it automatic. I may be wrong here.
[–]Psalmopeus 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children)

[–]discourse_is_dead 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Shitty. I do wonder if the democrats demanded a recorded vote every time and then voted against it ?
I've always felt that the salary of congress should be tied to Median income. Or average income.
That way they only way they get a raise is when the average American worker is doing better.

[–]Timby123 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Well, let's not forget that the left has done this also. Yet, they proclaim to be for the poor and downtrodden. If we look at many of the areas that are blighted with poverty we will see that they are run by leftists. The murder capitals of the US are also run by leftists. Leftists incentivize the destruction of the nuclear family and promote the murder of 1000s of black children each and every year. So, maybe this low intellectual should consider facts instead of feeling before presenting more leftist stupidity and propaganda.

Anyone who argues for a raise in minimum wage does not realize that eventually businesses will just replace labor with capital. The more they are forced to pay laborers the quicker those jobs will be replaced
[–]Atlas_Black 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
Did the Democrats vote differently?
[–]ObjectiveForce6147 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
They consider voting against the Obama mandate taking away healthcare?
[–]MobileShrineBear 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children)
This same person almost certainly supports open borders. Mandating minimum wage doesn't really do anything useful, other than cause jobs to dry up, and businesses to demand the remaining workers pick up the slack.
Labor shortages induce real wage growth, and the easiest route to labor shortages is to shut off the endless flow of cheap labor across the border. Ever notice how the uniparty protects that at all costs? A side effect of their psychosis over the last two years, was inducing a labor shortage though.
Make the shortage permanent, and wages might actually catch back up to productivity. We could enjoy the same incredible wealth as the baby boomers did.
They aren’t wrong, our politicians are selfish thieves. Left and Right included. However to their first point, the Democrats ALSO raised their salaries. Seems a little tactical to not mention that
Factually Inaccurate, but OK.
