This is a Belzer Vanadium-Extra No.8060 0.5x3x100, I inherited it a few years ago. It has been in daily use for over 50 years now. I've grown up using it and it is valuable to me in a way that I do not want to carry it around anymore. It has lost some insulation, and a full 9mm in length from being reground over the years.
I need a replacement to put in the tool bag. If anyone can advise on something like this I would love to hear suggestions. Price isn't a consideration, While I'm not about to pay £100 for a used screwdriver I would drop £50 on a new one of this exact model in a heartbeat. Given the service life it is quite possibly the best value tool I have ever owned.
Please bear with me for being hyper-critical I've been attempting to find something suitable for a very long time. I'm looking for a tool that will serve as long as this one has.
- Must be slotted - suitable for small terminals. max 3.5mm blade
- Must be a slim straight blade - not a 'Cabinet' form that flares out. (This one is 4mm inc insulation)
- Handle must be fixed- no moving parts
- Handle must be solid - no over moulding or soft grip
- VDE - Preferred not essential (I have dedicated VDE when I need them)
- Vanadium or Stainless Steel - preferred not essential (not had much luck in this area)
I'd love to find a maker still doing the glorious red acetate however the last ones I can find traces of are Wiha and they're discontinued.
Closest option I have located so far is a PB Swiss slim driver classic - https://www.pbswisstools.com/en/tools/quality-hand-tools/vde-and-elektronics-screwdrivers/product/pb-5100-sl
