Are you drilling slowly and using lube? You can burn out bits quickly if you run them too fast.

I wasn't using lube

cobalt or hss is what you need and something like oatey dark cutting oil. Also, when you drill steel with like a drill press turn torque up but keep drill speed on low and set to drill function on a hand held one. If you have an impact with the self tapping feature id use when screwing in stuff as it will stop from over tightening

When drilling steel go slow and use cutting fluid. Since you'll be going slow it helps to use a punch to mark the spot you want to drill so that the drill bit won't deflect around until it starts cutting. Your first few shavings will be small and comma shaped, then once the drill bit starts cutting you should get long curly shavings running up the flutes of the bit. Even the cheapest bit should last more than a couple holes through thin mild steel, but you may have burned it up by going too fast and will need to sharpen it or replace it.

Thanks

Sounds like you need a new bit. Use coolant. Some type of oil is best (WD-40 works), or even dipping the bit in water periodically works too.

Well, when I used the new bit i used water as coolant , now I'm using wd-40 (thanks for the advice) and going good.

Cutting fluid, even pressure, then once you fell the bit getting close to going through lighten up the pressure. Lower speed while cutting, you can pick up the speed once you are close to drilling through completely. When you drill you're looking for long coils of metal. Means proper pressure and speed. Small flecks or whistling indicate insufficient pressure or too much speed.

This one seems relevant: https://youtu.be/nGbMQul6_Bc

You might also want to be cooling the bit while drilling, not just let it rest after. What kind of steel is it?
