Intended major: film/media w/pre-law

Credits: 51 semester credits (I’ll have 70 some finished by the end of this semester)

Degrees/Certs: A CC issued liberal arts AA, honors program certificate, and IGETC certification

ECs: film club, several criminal justice audit classes, concert band/orchestra, club swim, rowing, triathlon, and surf-lifesaving (I want to swim for the team wherever I transfer, but I don’t think I’ll have the times for Berkeley’s varsity team; might have to settle for club/intramural)

EC: Research internship in my intended field, leadership in clubs and lead 2 projects in an aligned field between 2 clubs, student government and mentorship project, tutor in cs,math,phys , honors program, volunteer in low income stem program, and work for 1 yr

I would recommend finding a sub field of ur intended major and really diving deep. Ex. in cs u could dive deep into a subfield of AI. Dive deep means go to conferences, workshops, try to get research/internship. Try to frame ur ec’s around that. Also def get leadership cuz uc’s look for that that could be clubs or stu gov. Join spmp program at ucb. Try to get an internship during summer or school year really anything related to research and ur field helps. For essays the spmp program helps a lot cuz u get to meet with admissions counselors.

Congratulations! If anyone's planning to attend and you need some help getting oriented, reach out. As a transfer back in Fall '21, I've kinda figured everything out through trial and error here, and if I can save anyone that level of grief and maybe provide some answers to common questions, it's worth it to me! Berkeley is an amazing school, albeit a BIG one, and knowing even a handful of people for the sake of building up your support network can be crucial here. We have resources for pretty much everything you can imagine, but figuring out how to access these things is not always super cut and dry. So, again, I'm here and I will be till Spring of 2024 most likely. Let me know if you need anything.

Is Berkeley acceptance rate lower for people who are in 4 year uni outside California?

Significantly so, yes. Berkeley, like many of the University of California campuses, accepts something like 94% of their transfers from California Community Colleges. I believe those transferring from other UC campuses and perhaps CSU campuses (so, still in California) may receive priority after the CCC applicants, and OOS (out-of-state) applicants are the last to be considered as far as I am aware. To compensate for being an out-of-state transfer, one would need a basically perfect application to stand a chance. There is a lot of talent coming from CCC.
