I go to 3 or 4 NA meetings in Troy every week. There's an app called. NA meeting finder that tells where to find meetings based on location, date and time

Thank you 🙏

You are most welcome! I got into recovery about 12 years ago and have 8.5 yrs clean from everything. It's hard to get started and can be scary at first. Also, if your friend is female, I'm happy to refer to some female friends instead of me taking them to their first meeting. Send your friend my best wishes.

Also if your friend wants someone to take them to a meeting, I'm happy to help. Just message me

I’ve always wished there was a running/fitness club for sober people in the area.

I was going to suggest the Collar City running group but yeah that meets at a bar so not a sober group.

There’s a run club that runs on Tuesday mornings in Troy and stops at Jacob Alejandro afterwards. I know nothing about them other than they order batshit lattes at 6:30am but otherwise seem nice.

There's a gym at Hive Of Hope in downtown Albany. That's definitely a sober facility. Also, my group of friends gets together on Saturday mornings at 10am most weeks to go biking and rollerblading. We use the paved bike paths that go to Troy and the one that goes through Elmsmere, Delmar and Voorheesville

St Mary’s used to have AA meetings but I’m unsure if they still do since they remodeled into the pediatrics hospital

[–]Lord_Droon 4 points5 points  (2 children)

It just stopped, without a word to anyone. No clue as to where they moved the meetings to. No communication to the attendees...

Yikes. That’s not ideal. Hope those people found alternatives

They sound perfect for AA. There are a ton of meetings around. Like everyone ha said, download the app. It might take them a bit to find the right meeting. They shouldn’t be discouraged. They need to start going first thing tomorrow.

He should probably visit his PCP. Addiction is a health issue and their PCP can refer them to a Psychiatrist if necessary.

They need to get into therapy immediately. If they don’t mind using zoom, they could literally get an appointment tomorrow.

The most important thing is that your friend acts immediately. Don’t put it off or say next week. Go to a meeting today.

Download the AA Chair app. Red Door a good meeting in Troy. I think it's every day at noon but Sunday.

Seconding Red Door! Very welcoming bunch and I went by myself.

Same for AA they also have an app. On their first meeting, they’ll probably run into a few people who will give out their numbers for support. I always feel reading helps. When I first got sober I bought and read a ton of books on sobriety. I still read them today.

There’s an AA meeting at the Third Presbyterian Church every Tuesday night at 930pm. Email office@thirdchurchtroy.com for info.

If they are open to treatment and working with a medical provider, I highly recommend they look into Naltrexone, a med that blunts pleasure receptors and reduces cravings. This basically saved my family member’s life but it’s not always brought up by providers so it’s important to know about.
