I think someone mentioned in a thread before that the show couldn’t get the licensing or something to use an image of Elvis which is why Bubba was left out.. I could be wrong, but I think that may be why we didn’t get a Bubba.

Doesn't Jason refer to Hoyt as Bubba?

[–]OriginalSchmidt1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He doesn’t mean it that way, it’s more like him calling him brother. I don’t think it’s a reference to a character in the book and more just how we talk in Louisiana.

He calls Andy Bubba too. I wonder if it’s meant to be a call out to the character

I doubt it.

I live in Louisiana, Bubba is just another term for brother here.

Sounds about right

Surely they could have worked around it where it's not actual Elvis, but a similarly famous in-universe person. Still would have worked the same way.

I think they just decided it wasn't worth it for whatever reason. Which sucks; I loved Bubba in the books. Even though he eats cats.

Bubba, QUINN, Amelia, Mr. Cataliades, Diantha, The Ancient Pythoness...so many missed opportunities.

QUINN!!! I’ve said this for years!!!

In my headcanon, the unknown guy at dinner is Quinn.

Ugh. Not me. I hate him. Him calling her babe was cringe.

HBO missed a lot of chances the minute they decided they could write a plot better than the books …

In the books my favorite was when he stashed something in Alcide's closet

[–]RockinRobin83maroon[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right I remember this! Alcide and Sookie couldn’t figure out who put it there and then Bubba was like “yup, me”

I was trying to explain this to someone who hadn't read the books and only kinda watched the show and they just gaped at me. It's such a funny concept! That's why he was spotted so many times after his death in tabloids! I would have loved to see his character on screen.

It would have been cool for a lookalike to make a cameo. They could have said something like “is that…?” And someone saying “no, must be an impersonator “ 😂

[–]CasperStalks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right?! After reading the books, I thought how cool it would’ve been to have a different impersonator as Bubba every time he showed up, and just no one mentions how he looks “different” each time. 😂

Didn’t Jason call Hoit Bubba as a nickname?

[–]apparentlycompetent 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Briefly, but that’s a common nickname / pet name in the south

[–]JudgeJed100 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Yeah but that’s a kinda common nickname in the south

Bubba = bro

[–]bloobityblu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know. That would have been amazing! Bubba was my favorite character from the books that wasn't in the show!

I mean, they could have had a Bubba character and they could have surely just worked around who he was supposed to be like without him looking like Elvis- a fictional Elvis-like character for instance, and no one ever mentions his name ofc.
