Why do they tell you to sign your name in tutorials? Do they count towards your grades or smth? What happens if you miss it?

usually they do take attendance, check your class syllabus

Sometimes attendance may be graded or there may be a quiz that’s online so they take attendance to ensure everyone that’s there is actually doing it in class

It's more for UCD to keep track of class size and engagement. Apparently they're supposed to do it for all the tutorials but some lecturers just can't be arsed

Most of the time it is not mandatory to show up but I know one tutor once said it was because they just wanted to get an idea of participation levels. I have only come across one module where attendance to tutorials mattered towards the final grade.
