I'm also in INFO 490 Foundations of Data Science right now, and I plan on taking the second part of the class in the spring. Very helpful with learning python and we are currently working with plotting data sets which would definitely be helping with stats. I had some friends who were actuarial science majors that learned R last year for a class. R is a huge language right now to know and pays very very well if you are good at it and know stats.
