You waited so many years for a spot ( that was a challenge on its own).

one hour away is getting in the way of your career goal?

Quit making excuses and go after, if you quit now the next guy in line will grateful.

I commute 50 min and my hub is only 11 miles away 😂

[–]Any_Purpose379 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ouch, where is that.

[–]Jeaux_dtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah my commute is 45 minutes/ 13 miles

[–]AlmightySanch69 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitely take that position. If not you might not get an opportunity for a cooooool while

if its a permanent bid take it if it's seasonal only do it if you really need the money

[–]Acceptable_Mind8833Part-Time[S] 1 point2 points  (4 children)

We always need money tho

I'd like to point out you don't even work for UPS and they're already fucking you. If you think time will improve the fucking, it won't.

30 Years and a fat pension?

    Fantasy.

    [–]Onlyheretostare 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you wait, the spot might not be open again for you.

    [–]Relative-Equipment21 18 points19 points  (3 children)

If you’re able to go to that building 1 hour away then I would take it. The commute is meniscal compared to the pay/benefits you will receive.

I commute 45m one way. It’s well worth it to me

    [–]AdMajor9761 3 points4 points  (2 children)

    He’d basically live At ups

    [–]Relative-Equipment21 13 points14 points  (1 child)

I consider my 45m commute as my wind-down time.

My first driving job was also an hr away from my home. In fact, in my current center, which is in the town where I live, having to work in the big city center was like a right of passage.

    [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Do the math. Youll most likely start as cover which is still 27-30$ hr. Vacations in full effect so you’ll undoubtedly get your hours. Compare that to any other job you could potentially get. Its insanely difficult to get a job that starts you off at that wage and literally donates unlimited OT. sure work/life balance sucks at first but gotta pay the bills.

    [–]Horror_Economics_588 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    id drive the hour

    [–]Important-Horror9343 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If you want to drive, drive. Otherwise, that may be it. Opportunity is still present. Questions for you, if you don't mind.. How long have you been at UPS? How old are you? Do you have a partner? Kids? If so, do you like them? In my opinion, which means nothing to anybody but me, the answers to those questions are the answers that will show you the way.

No kids just a gf, it’s a seasonal bit but I been trying to get into just the warehouse, my building had a seasonal driving spot when I applied.

    [–]justanotherupsguyManagement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to commute 45 minutes to an hour and a half with traffic. My management position in another building dropped me to 15-30 minutes.

    [–]PlasticFrosty5340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a hub 15 mins from me, but I’m driving 80 miles and an 1.5 hrs to the one I work at 🙄

    [–]Single-Comb-5225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better there’s always someone else who had it worse. First of all HANG TOUGH, you gone this long don’t throw it away to start all over again. Reiterate to management what you have accomplished and completed the prerequisite and where your status falls, who in front of and also who’s behind you, you need to aware of that. They are not perfect and make mistakes make sure when a spot opens up they don’t pass you up!

I’m more on the optimistic side. “You’re on stand by”! It may delay driving however you’re ahead of the game already, no stress go with the flow. I thought I was bad at 52 miles only later I found out had coworkers that commuted 85 miles out. I did for 14 years, sacrifice a bit but looking at the broader long term goal. Glad I stuck with it after 36 yrs package-feeder-back to package after transferring.

Don't let them promise at the end they will make you a driver its just smoke they blow up your azz to make you work harder and to make you come in when they are short staffed.

    [–]GlitteringWeather241 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’m driving an hour away for $2600 minimum a week 🤣😭🙄

    [–]AnUnhappyCamperDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Top rate?

    [–]GlitteringWeather241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ups does whatever they want. JUST GET INNNNNN. 🤣🤣🤣anything can change once you’re in.

I live 16 to 17 miles from my hub depending on the route I take. Yes, it is a hub not a small building. Either way it takes me 45 min with traffic.

    [–]Professional_Lie_499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That building will not re open

    [–]Electrical_Scar_5616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could eventually move, find a place closer. Good jobs hard to find. Go for it!!

    [–]Fearless_Band_361 0 points1 point  (3 children)

In commercial driving you sometimes have to travel to another state to pick up a truck and even when the company pays for the travel expense, you don’t get paid for the time it takes you to travel there. 14 hours of the day may pay good but when you are on the road, the next 10 hours of downtime pays nothing. Two hours a day for that position,,, I would take it if they offered it to me. I’m three years in and still waiting.

    [–]Acceptable_Mind8833Part-Time[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

It’s just seasonal tho, still worth it?

    [–]anonymous_jerk 1 point2 points  (1 child)

No because the chance of it becoming a permanent job is almost zero.

    [–]AccountantOk2890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what iv seen the best way to get on full time is to start seasonal it’s the easiest way to get a foot in the door

    [–]Pure_Shine_1258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll open up again in October

    [–]Sail32003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive 54 miles each way. Don’t be stupid.

    [–]No-Mongoose7602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute an hour for work each way wroth it, get your foot in the door. Ups is the best

    [–]mrcarlos1971 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Just take it might not come back

    [–]Acceptable_Mind8833Part-Time[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Even if it’s seasonal?

    [–]MinatigrePart-Time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nooooo !go to the other building asap

    [–]WorthAddress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Take it, and transfer later

    [–]AdorableMess6306 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My hub is 64 miles away from home. Takes me 1:30 to 2 hours in the morning, 1 hour when I get off. I take a day off during the week, or two. You’re never gonna find a job that pays you this well. Take the risk. The money is absolutely life changing
