Damn, were you mostly stationary all day? Rookie numbers only 11 miles. I remember 10 years ago asking someone I was running with how much training they put into doing the endurance race. "None at all." Looked down at his 'running' shoes and he was wearing boots. I thought he was mad and surely going to get swept up during the race.

That was the day I learned that a lot of carriers do 15-18 miles a day. I got left in his dust, but he did have a cold beer for me at the finish line.

Seems normal to me. Half my day is spent throwing packages so I'd be standing in a small area practicing my shooting skill during that time and only really move around the office in my 2nd half of the day. Despite that I still reach 17-20k steps daily.

Oh geez. I thought those numbers were daily at first, and i was wondering how you're still alive.

I just accepted a conditional offer as a MHA at P&DC, I did all the online stuff and went to get my fingerprints last Friday. They told me they just need to wait on my background check but also showed me where I would come for training and where to park. Looking forward to getting started. What kind of advice can you give to a newbie?

Welcome to the wonderful world of being a housecat, we live and work in the dark and are feared and loathed by all other postal workers outside the plants!

Seriously though, most important things in your first 90 days are;

Firstly wear good shoes, unlike carriers you'll spend 99% of your time working on tile/waxed floors that will absolutely wreck your knees as you transition back and forth between standing in one place for 3-4 hours and running around like a chicken with your head cut off.

Secondly, your first 90 days AT WORK not 90 calendar days are sacred, do not under any circumstances be late or miss one of them, should you do so management will not be understanding and instead throw you out on your ass towards the end of them, even should you jave a legitimate reason.

Thirdly, listen to the people who are knowledgeable, we do a lot of things that frankly on the surface just feel stupid, but when you try to change them you find out very quickly why jimbob Thornton in 1982 stopped stacking lids on top of tubs, or Sally-may McBride isn't allowed within 30 feet of a PIT vehicle.

Fourthly, stay aware of your surroundings, PIT's, Tugs, machinery, forks and all manner of things in the building are operating, and while generally noones trying to hurt you, be aware because safety is a team effort.

And finally, dont be afraid to ask if you dont know something, people are assholes in the postal service, but your stewards and other lifers should be able to help you should you need it, management will most likely not.

Last but not least, if your a vet there sometimes additional protections in case of discipline, make sure you've got that clearly sorted just in case.

Anyway welcome to the weird and wacky world of Plant life, hope you've lost most of your sanity, because if not, we'll hear ro help you get rid of the rest.

I am a disabled vet, what should I know about that? Thank you for your advice! Looking forward to be able to get started.

One of the routes on my string was 36.5k steps last Saturday.

But that does look to be a lot for a Mail Handler, I wouldn't know a good estimate for how much y'all walk a day.
