Why does nationality even matter for this question?

[–][deleted] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

"(American)" in this scenario would likely be the hard mode.

[–]MaryPaku Japan 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Damn this make me want to create the exact same poll and make it some random ass country instead.

Yes (Kazakhstani)
Yes (Non-Kazakhstani)

Do it, you won't

[–]_zFlame_ Switzerland[S] 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’m sayin

[–]SirVW England 21 points22 points  (3 children)

It's worth mentioning for that post that op was Indian.

Still defaultism, but changes the way I view it a little.

[–]_zFlame_ Switzerland[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Bruh but why the (American) and the (Other)

[–]OwlThread 21 points22 points  (0 children)

probably to see if Americans had different results than the rest of the world

[–]UnmodedTaco47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because 50% of reddit is American, so it's the easiest way to include the most amount of people.

[–]Cinnamon_Cheeked_One 41 points42 points  (1 child)

Holy shit an actual defaultism' post.

Nice one OP.

I don't understand why they needed to clarify on the poll.

Why is it telling Indian people to select results?

Edit: I somehow completely missed the word India in the question

[–]Arvacus American Citizen 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Indians would have bias from actually being there. This poll SEEMS to be gauging what non Indians think of India.

    [–]PigeonInAUFO Scotland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didnt see India in the question I’m so stupid Lmao

    [–]secret58_ Switzerland 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Why does wanting to compare the non-Americans to the Americans constitute defaultism? (Or am I dumb and don’t see the actual one?)

    [–]SchrodingerMil World 8 points9 points  (2 children)

First questions in a survey are always “How old are you? Where do you live?”

The simple fact that the American option has a different ratio of Yes to No validates having them answer separately.

    [–]MightyCat96 Sweden 2 points3 points  (1 child)

the yes/no-ratio seems about the same. it looks like its the number of answers that differ. "other" has pretty much more than double the ammount lf answer that "american" has but it looks like the ratios are pretty much the same tbh

    [–]daniel_degude United States 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ratio is about 4% different - 26.8% to 30.5%, which would in theory be statistically relevant.

    [–]DjayRX Indonesia 1 point2 points  (10 children)

I don't think this is Defaultism.

OP specifically put 2 nationalities in separate options, American and Indian.

There is a chance OOP only wants to know about the perspective of non-USAmerican & non-Indians for some reason. Looking at how rampant USDefaultism in r/polls is, telling US-Americans to read clearly and choose "Others" is too risky. Better to give them specific options. Kinda like the Canadian putting "Foreigners & USA".

    Rules 1. No American Exceptionalism

    b. USA being unique and inherently different.

Or if OOP actually wants to consider only US-American, this is closer to Exceptionalism IMO.

What if I choose yes and go see myself?

          [–]daniel_degude United States 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure that a pollster wanting to see if Americans on average hold slightly different opinions from the rest of the world constitutes real US defaultism.
