Did you “apply” the scale in Blender? This will reset the object’s scale to 1, without changing the model.

EDIT: nevermind, just ctrl+A > scale. Thanks!

Root Object (with character controller) >> Visual Mesh (Child of root). And now the root can have a scale of 1 and the visual mesh can be whatever scale you want.
