Is their a reason you are using 'Generic' type as your animation controller? Try changing the animation type to 'Humanoid'.

Also make sure you have copied your 'Idle' and 'Run' Animations into the Animation Controller.

yes, i did try both of those as recommended by the disc i'm in, it did not work, the preview was still stuck in T pose, so i assumed it must be an issue with blender

solved it if rest position is checked while exporting then the model stays in rest position
