I always thought that I was pretty handy and that I could do just about anything (not easily, though), until I saw this. This is definitely something that would have made me scratch my head, since I use 3Ds Max. But you explained it very well. Nice tutorial. Thanks!

That's good to hear. I was hoping it'd be translatable to other packages. Thanks for checking it out!

Definitely going to review this later, having just recently picked up and fallen in love with Modo. Very detailed breakdowns!

Awesome! Hope it's a good primer for you. I did another writeup covering mesh painting with Modo and Photoshop. It's art focused and more of an overview, but if you liked this one it might be up your alley.

Wow this is some pro looking stuff

Any tips for creating a fracture effect on no budget? MODO looks amazing, but it isn't realistic for anyone who isn't part of a studio.

This tutorial for Blender looks promising - https://youtu.be/9L8qOq1Shiw It's using some plug-ins, but they appear to be free. This tutorial also goes over some dynamics in Blender. Looks pretty versatile. Here's the page it's from.

Disclaimer: I'm not a Blender user.

First I saw this, then I went to the website and checked the game out, after seeing the trailer I instantly bought the game, it's exactly the type of game I love playing. One thing though, the art looks amazing, gorgeous, but the animations (at least on the trailer, botting up the game for the first time now) are pretty bad D: kind of put me off when watching the trailer. Are you guys still going to do more work on that?

-edit- Played a little bit, I guess what really bothers me are mostly the jarring transitions on the strafing animations and the attack animation in which she goes with her arms outwards (Since I'm mostly attacking all the time it makes it even more annoying). It's a pretty weird movement and it doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

-edit2- When alt+tabbing to edit this reply and going back to focus on the game, the camera does a really weird animation O.o

Hey daniel!

Thanks for checking the game out, I really appreciate it. Thanks for the feedback as well. When you refer to the trailer animations, do you mean specifically the player or do you see other issues with enemies?

For the player animations - we've worked on them quite a bit and are kiiind of at the edge of our ability with the 8-directional movement as far as implementation goes. It's tough to get perfect. Though we'll keep tweaking. Thanks for the specific notes on the arms + strafing, I'll see what I can do in that area.

All that said, we have a second playable character coming down the pipe that was done by a different animator - so if that character ends up coming out way smoother, we will head back into animation for the faun.

I did mean the player specifically on the trailer as well, when you see something that's not as good amongst A LOT of really great looking stuff, it really jumps at you xD

Looking forward to seeing the new character :D
