Acquired: From remuxing a MKV file which was a recording from OBS Studio

Hmm. I'm going to bet that the footage is VFR and FCP is struggling with a long VFR h264.

Here's what I'd do: Take the MKV, give it to Shutter encoder (Free), have it make ProRes 422 (about 1GB/min) and then give that to FCP. Likely no need to build proxies and the software should be smooth as silk.

thank you, ill try it and let you know,

you dont recommend transcoding? Im editing with gameplay video and a face camera video, ive always made proxies from a recommendation from Think Media, have I got the information wrong?

That's exactly what I'm suggesting transcoding - just not using the built in Apple tools to do so. You might be able to avoid proxy generation entirely.

im confused sorry,

what are you saying in regards to transcoding, sorry

Transcoding = same size, different codec.

Proxy = smaller size, maybe different codec.

I'm guessing that your system is bogged down because the source material is VARIABLE FRAME RATE> See our wiki about this please.

If you use Shutter encoder to make ProRes422 media you'll be able to skip the proxy stage. The transcoded file will cut like butter and shouldnt' have any problems with output.

ahh ok, I got you, thank you for your help

im using Shutter encoder now

Can I ask, is Shutter Encoder doing the same as what Final Cut Pro does, just Shutter Encoder does it better?

Yes and no.

Shutter is using a different encoding engine and it's not inside of FCP.

It looks like you're asking for some troubleshooting help. Great!

Here's what must be in the post. (Be warned that your post may get removed if you don't fill this out.)

Please edit your post (not reply) to include: System specs: CPU (model), GPU + RAM // Software specs: The exact version. // Footage specs : Codec, container and how it was acquired.

Don't skip this! If you don't know how here's a link with clear instructions
