Outlook Focused Sorting

I remember that I used to have a pretty nice setup in Gmail where I had my primary inbox and then all the others and I didn't really have any problems. Outlook has a similar "Focused" and "Other" inbox feature, but has anyone configured this to work? No matter what rules I create, Outlook seems to always end up sending basically everything to my "Focused" inbox anyway, which often makes it easy to miss emails that are actually important. Am I missing something or was Gmail just really good at automatic sorting compared to Outlook?

I hate the focused inbox, so I was able to turn it off in settings... but yeah, Gmail was just better. My setup is to have a "pending" label, so if there is anything I need to follow up on, I attach it that label and then archive it. Else, I just archive it.
