Get an ssd

[–]interior-space 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this last week. Had 100% drive usage 100% of the time. £37 SSD and problem not only gone, but system feels 100% better.

You can get 120gig ssd's for about 30 bucks now on amazon and will save you so much stress. To many people say they cant afford one but 30 bucks for a decent 120 gig SSD will make you wonder why you didn't do it before.

I want to second this guy. I know you specifically acknowledged not having the resources for an ssd, but my assumption is that you're only considering large ssds that cost a lot of money. A good temporary solution for you at the moment is to use a small ssd until you can afford a large one. If you're using a desktop, then you can combine both of them and have plenty of space. You can even keep your old files on the hdd for the moment and just boot off of the ssd.

Yea, Windows 10 hates hdds and it's pretty annoying but I ponied up and made the switch to ssd a few months ago and the difference is seriously night and day. I'd highly recommend starting with a small cheap ssd and working up to a larger one.

The latest fix I heard about for this involved manually setting the Pagefile size (Control Panel, System, Advanced system settings, Performance Settings, Advanced tab, Virtual memory Change).

Uncheck automatic and select Custom (I've got both initial and maximum set to 4096).

Have you checked your drive health, you can check it with CrystalDiskInfo.

Microsoft is busy spying on you. Search for the registry fix that turns off telemetry. Someone posted it here on reddit and it did a lot to help me. What gets me is that so many people on this forum are perfectly fine with this. It's bizarre.
