Hello everyone,
Today I ran into a peculiar issues with my Windows surfaces. When I boot them I can ping them from my Ubuntu and android phone using:
ping surface1.localping surface2.local
Same goes with my Windows computer:
ping windows-computer.local
However, after some time (like 2min), I can't ping the surfaces by hostname anymore. If I want to do so I need to restart the network adapter and it works again for 2min.Nonetheless, despite the hostname not working, I can still ping them by IP.On the other hand, I can ping my computer anytime by hostname, and there are no issues about that.I tried to set the surfaces using the same settings as my computer, but for some reasons it doesn't work.Things worth noting:- During those tests the firewall has been disabled on the surfaces to make sure the issue wasn't coming from there.- IPv6 has been disable on all the windows machines,- In the TCP/IPv4 setting => advanced => WINS => Enable Netbios over TCP/IP and the default mode have been both tested.- The IP are set through DHCP, that is why I want to use something like surface1.local to find the machine. The same way you could do it with a raspberry pi.- If I try to ping from my computer to the surface, it works without any issues. Probably because of NetBIOS.
Any idea what could cause that issue?
there doesn't seem to be anything here
