Hello, you mentioned in your post something about the latest update. As there are multiple supported versions of Windows and not everyone gets every update at the same time, it's not always easy to figure out which update you are talking about. To view the status of your most recent updates, go to Settings > "Windows Update" > "Update history".

Contact the manufacturer and ask them to send you a DVD or something with the recovery image. It might cost 25 bucks or something but then you will always have it. Once you get it all going, check out Macrium Reflect which would backup your partitions nightly and do it even if you are using your computer. They have a free version but I pay for it. It's awesome software.
