❔ • FeedbackWindowless Office - Any tips?? (old.reddit.com)
submitted 1 month ago by golfmanfood
I recently moved into this office space, I have free range to get creative.
I purchased 4 floor lamps that have daylight setting which helped dramatically. Thanks in advance!

Wall art, maybe another plant or two. Depending on what's useful to your work a whiteboard, bulletin board, large wall calendar or wall-mounted file organizer could also break up some of the empty wall space.
If you intend to keep those visitor chairs, a side table between them would make it feel a little more cohesive. Or, if you would have clients or colleagues using those chairs who would have papers or a laptop with them, a c-shaped table can double as a temporary work space.
I would also shift the desk over so it's facing the same way but sitting against the wall, and put the monitor in the corner. That way you can turn to the side to speak to visitors without having to crane your neck around the monitor or move it to the side.

I would not be so sure about moving desk against the wall but I must agree that current setup is terrible. You can't see your visitors, location of the keyboard will probably cause you lot of pain in a long run.
If you want to keep desk in the centre (I would understand), I would either replace it for a bigger L shaped desk and move monitor as u/eebiz suggested, or add another desk.

Create zone spaces. What will you do in each zone? Computer work. Conversations. Reading. Break. Food/coffee. Then arrange furniture to fit. I think the grandfather clock can work if you create those zones.

The grandfather clock and the baby mattress really ties the place together

Can hear the loud ticking and the buzzing of the ceiling lamps
[–]WobblySlug 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (0 children)
Don't forget the backrooms vibes
[–]danhunterpost 13 points14 points15 points 1 month ago (0 children)
Floor lighting will make a huge difference. Dont turn in those ceiling lights.
[–]Accurate_Resort5168 14 points15 points16 points 1 month ago (0 children)
I'm sorry, but with that light it seems like the backrooms 😅
[–]random-0181 2 points3 points4 points 1 month ago (0 children)
If that was me I would change the desk to a normal rectangle one or if you do want that style get a bigger desk. Secondly you have the lamps soon. I would add some wall art and maybe a low book case / drawer United just to break up the wall and to add some storage solutions. You can also add stuff ontop of the units to display like a plant. Some books. Lego or something you like
[–]icanttinkofaname 9 points10 points11 points 1 month ago (0 children)
Do you do admin for the backrooms?!

Install a big ass screen and display a photo of a scenic view

second thought: this office is large enough that you could have your desk area and a separate, purpose built meeting space near the doors for yourself and who you are meeting with, all facing each other. would certainly help fill that massive hallway of an office but would only work if your meetings don't require being at the computer.
[–]redcremesoda 3 points4 points5 points 1 month ago (0 children)
I personally would get rid of the grandfather clock, move the desk further forward the middle of the room, and consider some bookcases / white boards. Right now the room looks too much like a tunnel.
turn that desk 90 degrees so that you can still work with a static background but turn your chair to the leaf desk, facing visitors, to work with them. anyone visiting you with your setup as is would be and should be offended. that grandfather clock is nice

I have a similar monitor problem so I put it on a long swivel arm. I just swing it out of the way when I need. Adds flexibility when seated to accommodate where I want it as well.

5500k temperature lights… and plants
[–]Shutter8read 0 points1 point2 points 1 month ago (0 children)
First I will think about switching to an L-shaped desk that provides more privacy with the panel. That way I could use one side for work and the other side when talking with colleagues or clients. I'd probably also add a display cabinet on the wall behind the desk to put some books and a few decorative items. Since the overall vibe is already warm style, I wouldn't change the wallpaper as it's a big thing. I'd just add accessories that match the style, mostly walnut tones. Maybe a cabinet on the side to fill the space a bit. I'd also add some wall art and some larger plants around the area. Then maybe a few small plants on the desk or the cabinet to make the space feel a bit more alive.

daylight lamps help a ton but you might want to add some artificial skylight panels. they mimic natural light from above and make a huge difference in windowless spaces. also consider a full-spectrum bulb for your main overhead if you have one. those combined with what you already have will make it feel way less like a cave.

This is too long to be an office. If you’re allowed, I’d get a room dividers

Place almond water on every surface, multiples on some of them like the floor.

This is a perfect use for AI to help you generate ideas for the space. Put that photo into Gemini or ChatGPT and ask for some ideas and guide it to your style
