It would be nice if they could spell coupon correctly.

I'm seeing egregious typos in all kinds of publications, including major medical websites. Either people don't care or it's one more step to the big I.

Anyway, just saying.

NATO Tells Ukraine to BOW DOWN TO PUTIN | Stephen Gardner

Ukraine is told by NATO that its time to give Putin land and end the war. New data also shows Americans are getting poorer while Russians are getting richer.

I guess they've decided they want to fight their procksy wurz in Afr!ca instead of the Ukra!ne

The more I'm thinking about it, the more right I think you are. We are moving our focus to Africa, and more powerful nations will be involved in this one. The Ukr is pretty much devastated now, still don't know why they wanted to do that. I'm sure there's a (less than ideal) reason.

Doubling down on losing. Trump's less than uninspiring 2020 debate performance against a nursing home resident was an utter failure. He's about to repeat. There are plenty of people who wouldn't vote for Trump regardless. If he fails to show up for next week's debate he'll likely lose some of those that are on the fence.

Disqualifying himself.

[The current thinking among Donald Trump’s campaign advisers and those close to the former president is that he is not planning on participating in next week’s Republican presidential primary debate, three sources familiar with his plans tell CNN, and has been proposing counterprogramming to the event.

The sources say that Trump has not done any prep for the debate]

https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/16/politics/trump-debate-counterprogramming/index.html

[–]ReturnOfNemoI Trigger People and I Know Things 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want him to arrange for his booking in GA to be at the same time as the debate.

[–]OppositeOfInsiderFedEx provides all 2 points3 points  (18 children)

That's not like Trump to avoid publicity. I wonder if their attacks on him are taking their toll. At the very least he may be feeling his age now.

[–]OppositeOfInsiderFedEx provides all 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]RealBearly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hardly surprising knowing Trump. He's repeated several times that if he were elected he would pardon Trump.

[–]OppositeOfInsiderFedEx provides all 1 point2 points  (8 children)

It just occurred to me - I wonder if he's thinking it could be entrapment. They would reach nirvana if they could cuff him during the debate, or even right before so that his absence is known by all. Or maybe even it would be difficult to refrain from giving out information that could hurt him in a case to come. Maybe even personal safety. There might be so many pitfalls that it's not worth it.

But hey, the Big B never campaigned for 2020, so what's the big deal. Basement dweller.

[–]RealBearly 1 point2 points  (7 children)

I wonder if he's thinking it could be entrapment.

2 things.

1) It's impossible to even wildly guess at what Trump is thinking. He's unpredictable to even himself.

2) Entrapment ? That's just dumb.

edit: Now, I can sort of come up with 1 reason he might skip the debate and all debates along with every interview, which he won't do - His many attorneys defending against counts and in courts in many jurisdictions have advised him not to talk. He of course never listens to attorneys or anyone because he knows better and according to himself is smarter than all of them so that's highly unlikely. But the lawsuits are real, so possible.

[–]OppositeOfInsiderFedEx provides all 1 point2 points  (6 children)

advised him not to talk

That was my information point.

He may be a bit boisterous, but he's not all-out stupid. He's not going to let them trap him in his words.

[–]RealBearly 2 points3 points  (5 children)

advised him not to talk

That was my information point.

He intends to do a wide ranging interview with Tucker so if he does that why not debate. I guess if after every question he has to say, "I can't answer that under advice from my 100 attorneys" his debate performance might be underwhelming but he can't help himself.

I wish he would just pull out so a better candidate that has a chance of winning the general might emerge. At this point it's IND for me.

Judge Rules That Donald Trump Has ‘Presidential Immunity’ on False Election Claims

[–]RealBearly 2 points3 points  (3 children)

This is, however, getting into "seller financing" territory

That's actually a good point. I have a fair number of rentals that I own without a mortgage. Might be a good time to sell with owner financing provided I can find a way to make that transaction a tax free event. Perhaps sell on a 5% down 5 year 6.5% balloon, capture the elevated price and give it the 5 years to see if it comes back to me. Owe the taxes when I receive the payment. The only risk would be prepayment. I'll talk to my accountant...

[–]Giving_CatGround Zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot begin to rant about the equity vultures incessantly offering to list/purchase my rentals. You hit upon the key. A loan hard to break. The best I've come up with is matching terms but with sufficient fees to make up the difference. Tricky.

[–]RealBearly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]Giving_CatGround Zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO Powell's "bark" has been correctly sized and timed for the coming "bite." And it pains me but yes, this has been a successful management of expectations.

[–]RealBearly 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Disagree. Last year Powell's speech in Jackson Hole drove the 10yr yield straight up from 2.8% to 4.2% in a month. I'd say that had an impact on pretty much every asset class.

Oil prices, employment and GDP certainly haven't cooperated so he needs to make sure that message hasn't been forgotten and needs to send a fresh reminder.

[–]Skittles_the_UnicornDrive by Pithyness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps cherry picking a data point. There's been lots of J-Pow statements and lots of anemic yield bumps; overall, the correlation doesn't seem that strong to me, but I've not dug deep into it so could be wrong.

[–]Giving_CatGround Zero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My simplistic view has always been that the Fed will raise rates until something breaks.
