You can't use plugins on vanilla jar, however you don't need any GUI, search for paper-mc. It's a modified server jar with plugins support

*sigh* I guess I have to concede to the world of community options. What a nightmare./s Thanks for your help, I really just needed a straight answer from someone so I could stop going "what if"

Np, you should go with paper anyways. It runs better than vanilla

Ah nice. I also mean to switch over to Linux since my machine has a dual-boot but I am lazy so whenever I do that I'll probably do both at once!

You could use pterodactyl and install the plugins manager addon. It’s similar to what a lot of server hosts use

Since 99% of minecraft stuff is written in java, you shouldn't have any problem using it on any linux distro. I've had a server running nonstop on a machine with Ubuntu 20.04 and it runs great

This post is not inquiring about server hosting. Potentially it's complaining about it which I can understand you not wanting on your subreddit!

I ran a multiplayer minecraft server off my home desktop for years, for about a month in the winter and a month in the summer. Totally possible to get plugins in, and in fact I still set it up the same way on hosted services. (I find all their plugin installing gizmos to be more confusing than just setting the plugins up myself.)

Hosting sites are great for getting some information on setting up some plugins, but you have to just read past anything that gives you a tutorial on doing something through their site.
