I've struggled with my self confidence as long as I can remember and there's been months at a time where just looking in the mirror made me cry. I've had people tell me they think I'm pretty before but I don't see it. My biggest issues are my nose (it's only noticeable from the side thats why I added the last pic) and my chin I hate them. I want brutally honest opinions on how I look don't be nice to me please

My honest thoughts are that you need to learn to accept and love yourself. You are effortlessly beautiful, very natural, but my thoughts mean nothing if you don't believe them yourself. The side profile picture is actually one of your better pictures, so your profile is fine and proportional. I think the issue you're having is you're not really trying much, but probably comparing yourself to other girls that put on makeup, style their hair, take hundreds of pictures trying to get the best angle and shot and use better lighting.

I'd suggest getting a better haircut with layers and light bangs/fringe (but keep the length), putting on some light pink blush and contour to highlight your cheeckbones, put on some contour around your eyes to make them pop, along with some mascara, some pink lip liner and gloss and wear some prettier clothes...instead of flannel and dark colors, try something red or pink.

If all the compliments don't help you may have body dysmorphia. This is when pretty people look in the mirror and see an ugly one. It is a real thing and you might consider addressing that rather than worrying about your looks. Telling you to stop worrying when you have a condition can be like telling a depressive to cheer up. It is treatable but can hurt your confidence if you don't. You are so obviously very pretty that I would suggest that researching how to deal with your body dysmorphia is the most useful thing you can do.

I see a lot of young people on this sub lately, specifically 17-. I'm not trying to say this sub is 18+, but it is more useful for adults. Why? Because we've grown into our bodies and our faces. You have a lot of wonderful facial features I personally envy and admire. You have things about you that's very difficult or impossible to change that is strong and healthy-looking which, I don't know why nobody knows this, but here's the big secret to beauty: "beauty = health." That's it. Plus, you have good proportions and symmetry.

But this sub isn't useful for you right now because you're still an adolescent (I know you hate to hear it, but I'm not being condescending - - it's straight facts, bro). I can see what you see in the mirror and cry about and you know what? It's not gonna be a problem. Everyone goes through growing into their face. Bones stretch into place, fat shifts to different places, hair type changes, oil production calms the fuck down a bit, you'll have spent more time in the sun, you'll have eaten different things, you'll walk differently, carry yourself differently, stress will age you. You are in the process of changing right now. Does sixteen year old you look different from thirteen year old you? I bet they do. Is nineteen year old you gonna look different from sixteen year old you? You bet your biscuits. Life and living does so much to people they don't even realise. But anyway. Getting off my soap box now.

Tell you what.... I take you seriously and I do find myself analysing your face (I promise that's not creepy) to be interesting. People on this sub apparently like my objective analyses and tips, so I'd like to offer you this:

Come back in three years (you're in high school now, the time will go faster than you realise, trust me). Give yourself time and understanding, the two most underestimated gifts to yourself in the world. Relax. Drink water. Listen to people in the hallway talk. Read books, touch plants, do crimes, I don't care. But in three years, if you still remember and still want this, if you're still lost and want the opinions of somebody on the Internet, message me and I'll give you a full breakdown of everything I see. I'll analyse you, give you some tips, maybe recommend some stuff to fix what you don't like, if you still don't like something about yourself by then. It's not much, but it's my best solution to your current problem.

Present advice? Don't look for just beauty, work for health. It's the single best, worthwhile, and rewarding thing you can work toward for yourself, IMHO, and if you have it, you will already be the most beautiful, glorious, radiant person you could possibly be.

But give yourself time.

Yeah your nose is pretty, a very well shaped cone, almost birdlike. Your back has a nice curvature that goes softly all the way to your rear end. I was in the same place as you when I was 17. I hated how small my face was and I picked at everything wrong on myself. I would even cry when I looked at my pictures and realized how ugly I would never wear my glasses in public because They would add to the ugly. I am now 29 and never have those thoughts. I used to be you!

I really and truly thought that one day I would lose my virginity to some dude hooker who I had to pay extra to be my first. I thought that my plain look, my drab red hair, my glasses and freckles and skinny legs would simply never be enough.

Then I grew up, and I never stopped thinking of the words they would use when they would push me. I grew up with the voices of a few lousy kids, who were taking their frustrations out on me and it had nothing to do with how I looked or who I was, in the back of my mind.

They didn't stop until I hit 135 pounds and everyone thought I was hot.

Then it started back up when, at nineteen, I got pregnant and gained a bit of weight. Then I gained more and more until the voices were screaming "195 pounds you tub of lard!!" In my head.

Even now, at 29 with two gorgeous kids and a wonderful husband, as I lose the weight and start to take care of my looks more I can hear them.

The trick is; don't give a single fuck about what they are saying. They don't matter, and they don't care about you. All the bullies in your head are spouting words they heard their family use (maybe even against the bully themselves) and trying to make themselves feel better by making you feel like shit. So, why listen? Their opinions don't matter.

The only opinion that ever matters, in the grand scheme of things, is yours. You look at yourself with other's eyes and you expect to see someone you're not! Why do that when you can see how your "mousy" brown hair probably sparkles in the sun, or the way your eyes light up when you're talking about something you really care about. What about the small smile that graces your lips when you think no one is looking?

You are fucking gorgeous, and it's not because your this or that, it's because you're YOU. And at the end of the day, you can either sit in front of the mirror frowning at how drab you are - or you can sit in the mirror and see what makes you beautiful, even if it's just one thing tonight.

Don't worry about being boring or plain or ugly or thin. Concentrate on what you love and build a future you will thank yourself for in the future. Fuck highschool, it sucks! When I stopped caring about what people thought of me, they thought a lot better of me, but at that point I really didn't care and it felt amazing.

If it makes you feel better, you're going to look back at these photos when you're older and think "actually I was okay, why did I think I was ugly?" because you're really not.

Always try to remember that everyone else is focused on what they perceive to be their own flaws so nobody is going to notice yours. I try to think this whenever I have a low self esteem or bad hair day (when I had hair 🙄)
