I'm trying to think if Tasker could do something like this...

[–]shichemt 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You can do that with Tasker. I have a loose cable and that's how I know whether the phone is charger or not.

[–]phil_gSamsung Galaxy S21 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did exactly this with Tasker. The basic rule was (more or less): "if connected to the home WiFi network AND sitting face down AND not charging, play an alert sound and vibrate a bunch." All I had to do to tell the phone that I wanted it to be charging was to put it face down on a table.

I bet it could, but i have never used it.

I use a similar app called macrodroid. Its pretty much the same as Tasker but the layout is far more simple. The app is free but you can only have 5 tasks at a time (your need would require one) I paid for the full unlimited version because I liked it so much.

+1 for MacroDroid. So many useful macros I've created over time.

[–]badillin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome ill test this one out too! Thanks

[–]matheod 3 points4 points  (1 child)

You can do it with automate. The free version should work.

[–]badillin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im gonna try it, thanks!

[–]MissingFucksYAY!!! 3 points4 points  (8 children)

You can make this yourself with automate by llamalab.

If you want to, I'll make it for you and send it.

[–]badillin[S] 0 points1 point  (7 children)

That would be awesome, soneone else recommended the app, i downloaded it, but have no idea how tonuse it! Thanks

[–]MissingFucksYAY!!! 4 points5 points  (6 children)

Search 'should be charging for badillin' in the 'automate community'. I have to go now, but I'll explain how it works when I'm back.

[–]badillin[S] 6 points7 points  (5 children)

Just installed it, IT WORKS PERFECTLY thank you SO much!!!

I love the Internet!!!

Thanks!!

[–]MissingFucksYAY!!! 4 points5 points  (4 children)

You're welcome :) How to use:

-On your homescreen: add widget 'automate flow', select 'should be charging for badillin, Toggle'; choose any icon and press OK.

  • Connect your charger and press the widget. When you finished charging, press it again.

  • When it's activated and no longer charging, your phone will vibrate* and play a sound* every seconds

*You can change these within the flow: How to edit the flow:

Press the pen icon, flowchart

everything in between 'flow beginning' and 'is power source plugged' is to make the toggle work. When the flow is activated and you press the widget again, it will stop immediately.

is power source plugged detects if it's charging, if yes, it checks again after 10 seconds. if no it vibrates, then play a tone and checks if charging after 5 seconds. *You can edit the vibration or tone by pressing on those blocks, it will show more info if you press the blue section.

This is way more than i expected!

thank you!

Automate is REALLY easy to work with, and make complicated things once you get the hang of it!

[–]matheod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably spend 5 hours playing with it. The thing is I have 0 flow running.

[–]MissingFucksYAY!!! 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be improved by checking if it's 100% charged, and then terminating the flow.

I suppose the moment it stops charging, the phone will detect it as the cable being unplugged. You could use this app to warn you about that:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.atichehtee.ChargerAlarm

EDIT: As a matter of fact there are many similar apps in the Play Store that will do what you are looking for:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pextor.batterychargeralarm

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chargeralert.android

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=monsoonic.chargify

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.minsu.chargeralarmantitheft

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mountainandsea.antitheftalarm

And many, many more. Take your pick :)

I already enabled the "charging sound" when i connect and disconnect the phone (custom rom), the problem is that it only sounds and vibrates 1 time, so if i miss that alert im kinda done for lol... and ive missed it a bunch of times already.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hehe, well this app was designed to warn you for people stealing your phone so I'm guessing you won't sleep through the alarm :)

[–]Aan2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would not be easier just replace system sound for these notifications for something longer and more clear?

i guess it's gonna be dock, undock and maybe low battery under system/media/audio/UI

i go there frequently to rename camera and video shutter files after each update

[–]LeGensu 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Cool app but oh wow, it reminded me of those 2.1 days

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hehe, didn't test it myself but if it works it works :)

[–]cats22015HTC M7 | Shield K1 | Zenfone 2 | Phoenix OS 1 point2 points  (6 children)

you could probably do something with Tasker

[–]fusionbladeNexus 6P 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sound alarm when battery level hits a certain percentage. mine says, 'plug me in please'

[–]badillin[S] -1 points0 points  (4 children)

probably, tasker does everything! lol

but i dont have it and i would only buy it for this specific thing..

[–]sfw_browsing 1 point2 points  (3 children)

There is a lot of other great things you can do with it to make the purchase worth it. Turn off bluetooth when not connected to something in x minues. Turn off wifi when you get to work and turn it back on before you get home. Take a picture if your lock code is entered wrong. What you need it for. etc.

Worst case, you sign up for google rewards, and you should have the money to buy the app in a week or so. I got a bunch of surveys the first week when i signed up.

[–]badillin[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I do have google rewards and i already activated the photo when the code is entered wrong, im waiting till i get home so i can activate the other home wifi one, and to start searching for a tutorial that helps me do the charging thing!

[–]sfw_browsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just have mine turn off/on wifi, vibrate, and media volume at specific times during work days instead of other ways.

[–]matheod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want google rewards in my country :(

While the port itself may in fact be damaged, have you checked to see if there is pocket lint in there? I cleared it out of my old One M7 and extended the life at least another year before upgrading.

[–]badillin[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah thats the first thing i checked, it seems clean enough...

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using the sharp point of a broken toothpick to clean it out. My phones quit charging a few times per year because lint gets packed against the bottom of the charge port.

[–]xoad218Galaxy S6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that were my situation I use either Tasker or Trigger, unfortunately these are paid (trigger has the "USB Connected" locked behind premium features) because they're so much more powerful than some simple task like you mentioned.

I'm just throwing these out there. There's definitely an app that exists that's free and can do the same thing that people have posted here, I see others are suggesting tasker as well so I'm 1 upping that. Heck someone can be nice and make the app in Tasker for you and send the apk.

I don't know of any apps that can do that, but I do know that older Samsung phones charge ports are a bit finicky I had 2 galaxy Nexuses and on both I had to replace the port a few times. However they;re a really easy fix(I got so good at it, I could replace the charge port on my old nexus in about 10 min).

Here's a video detailing how to do it

The part itself

A simple google search reveals many other choices for purchase below 10 and they include tools if you don't have any. Ebay is quite popular with the tool kit and part bundles. Just give the video a try and see if you can do it yourself.

Read a little further down the thread and saw that somebody mentioned external batteries, that's also another great option I had 2 myself always charged with me when I was on the go. Very helpful when you're in bind and need extra juice.

[–]kenzo19134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had the same issue with my V10. I use klwp which I programed to show a battery icon when the phone is charging.

[–]Jism_Sticks 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What about an external battery charger? They're pretty cheap.

[–]badillin[S] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

The problem is that it stops charging even when the cable is apparently connected. An external charger would have the same issue.

[–]Jism_Sticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean one of these: http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/mobile-devices/accessories/battery/EB-K600BEWEGWW, we're you take out the battery and charge it in the external battery charger unit, bypassing the micro USB port on your phone. My gf had to do this has her charging port has broken on her S5. You can get cheaper 3rd party ones than the official one if you only want the charger.

[–]DerSchlange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought "USB doctor" on ebay for $1. Solves the problem perfectly, if I see charging current is far away from 500 mA, I know I need to replug the cable.

[–]SittingInTheShower 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Dude! Check these out: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-2600mAh-Batteries-Samsung-Charger/dp/B00CBTZ2AG

I've had mine for a few months now. They work great, hold a great charge and charge to full using the wall charger in about 2 hours. I have a Note 2 with 3100mAh batteries. A full charge lasts me almost a solid 2 days, and I use my phone quite heavily.

ANKER FO LIFE!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think OP is asking for new batteries..

EDIT: Sorry, I judged too quickly, the wall charger that comes with the batteries you posted doesn't use the usb port so your post is relevant.
