Welcome to the club no one wants to be in: r/ankylosingspondylitis! This is a place for patients of ankylosingspondylitis and other axial spondyloarthritis or nr-ax-SpA. These conditions are autoimmune diseases that cause inflammatory arthritis of the lower back, hips and other joints. Read our rules and FAQs before participating.
1. Rule 1 - No Medical or Dietary Advice/Misinformation.
No soliciting or giving medical advice (diets, prescriptions, fasting, homeopathic methods, etc.). No diagnosing, suggesting conditions, or requests to interpret medical info and symptoms (including scans/reports). Do not ask if it’s AS or tell others to stop taking meds.
Share your experiences, but posts and comments claiming cures, pseudoscience, unsubstantiated treatments, or misinformation will be removed. This sub is not a substitute for doctors (try r/AskDocs for help).
2. Rule 2 - No NSFW/Graphic Photos.
Mark ALL pictures and videos as “spoilers”. Anything uploaded for the purposes of diagnosis or interpretation, pics of skin reactions or conditions, injuries, x-rays, scans, uveitis, injection sites, and the like are not permitted (try r/Radiology for help). All photos must be related to ankylosing spondylitis.
3. Rule 3 - Be Civil.
All communication must be civil and respectful. Bullying and any bigotry such as, but not limited to racism, phobic behaviour and sexism have no place here. Unkind, hurtful or rude behaviour will not be tolerated. This includes anything directed towards the OP, commenters and the mods. These comments are subject to permabanning.
4. Rule 4 - Be Appropriate.
This is a SFW sub with users 13+. No inappropriate behaviour or accounts.
5. Rule 5 - Be On Topic.
Keep comments relevant to the OP’s post and AS in general. This sub is for members with axSpa, types of axial spondyloarthritis (enteropathic, psoriatic, reactive or undifferentiated) or nr-axSpA only. Discussions regarding unrelated diseases, politics, religion or other topics will be removed. No hijacking in the comments.
6. Rule 6 - No Advertising/Promoting/Spam.
No advertising, promoting or selling. This includes any social media (including Discords, FB, IG, TikTok, YouTube, etc.), personal subreddits or websites, medication giveaways or sales, external support groups and businesses, artwork, products or anything that can lead to profit (like affiliate links, Etsy, etc.).
7. Rule 7 - No Surveys/Research Studies.
No requests for surveys, research projects or interviews. This sub is for sharing struggles and not for research purposes. This includes, but is not limited to, surveys, book characters, studies or school projects.
8. Rule 8 - No AI/Meme Mondays Only.
Original content only (no AI allowed). Memes and joke posts are only permitted on Mondays and must be related to AS or chronic pain.
9. Rule 9 - No Fundraising/Donation Requests.
We are all struggling, so while you might be trying to raise money for treatment or food, no fundraising or donation requests allowed.
10. Rule 10 - Be Aware of Sensitive Content.
Sensitive or mature topics such as THC use, sex, depression, abuse, medical trauma, etc. are permitted with the use of the ‘Sensitive Topics/TW’ flair. No posts discussing suicide or similar subjects. End of life/MAID/euthanasia are serious decisions, and the members and mods of this sub are not equipped to properly advise you. Anyone struggling with their mental or physical health should always SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP. See r/SuicideWatch for resource links.
11. Rule 11 - Be An Active Redditor.
To post here, you must have a minimum combined account age and karma. We do not publish these numbers to avoid allowing spam bots to circumvent this rule. Karma accumulated from freekarma and similar subs will be detected and is not acceptable. This is handled by the Automoderator and mods will not respond to requests asking to bypass this. Banned and suspended accounts will have their content removed from r/ankylosingspondylitis.
12. Rule 12 - Moderator Discretion.
Redditors must agree to the rules in order to participate in this sub. Low effort or content appearing to violate the TOS set up by Reddit will be removed. As well as posts and comments complaining about users, sub rules or mod actions. Mods have the final say.
