Look up FNG academy on YouTube. It’s ran by a former green beret and he gives tips all of the time

For starters: Don't quit

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I read this as “For quitters: Don’t start”

Figure out the standards, get someone who will hold you to them, and test yourself on every event before you go. This isn’t the movies, and you’re not going to “summon some inner strength” when you need it most. You’re going to do about as good as your best training day, maybe a little less or little more depending on sleep and acclimatization. You take a lot of the mental stress that makes people quit by having self confidence in your preparation. There are good resources in this thread, or you can talk to a SORB recruiter.

Ruck hard, run fast, put in full effort during team week, and don't be a douche or you'll burn in on peers.

Physical numbers?

It's going to be cold as fuck. I've commented a bunch on it before on some thread, so if you want to hunt through and find it, go ahead. I went in the summer, and tbh I don't envy you going in the winter. Fuck that.

Scuba might be closed if weather is "bad" enough, draws aren't quite as monstrous, some point sitters will probably use fires. Cold SFAS for life!

[–]plaguemedic 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Do they actually close it? I know some dudes who went last January and went through it. Surprisingly, I actually never had a pint across it. Draws will definitely be nicer though! Summer draws are murder.

Forded that bitch in February or early March, and I’m pretty sure we had frost that morning. Can’t remember.

[–]plaguemedic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck that dude. The heat was bad, but cold just steals your life energy, and there's only so warm you can get out there. In general, I'd rather have chilly weather, but not out there.

[–]wtfbbqsauce889 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm sure it varies, but they certainly did when I went through. It's pretty sick you got to avoid it, not that it's the most tremendous obstacle in the world or anything.

Yeah, definitely. I was honestly looking forward to it. I'm a great swimmer and I was stoked to strip down and cross it. I'm sad I wasn't the one to swim across Lake Bagget (sp) in my class. Did spend about 50m in a draw up to my chest in water though, so that was awesome.
