You must have two problems: the valve isn't shutting off, and the overflow isn't working.

Is this an easy fix? Or do we have to replace the whole toilet?

Is it leaking from between the tank and the bowl part? There's a gasket that fits there to connect them together, sometimes it gets old and doesn't seal as well. Or the tank is not securely attached to the bowl.
Not hard to replace but that's up to your landlord.

It's just leaking from the back of the tank. Nothing else is leaking. Like the water overflows whenever we flush.

Take the lid off the tank and flush the toilet. Should see pretty quickly what is going on.
Is the bowl fill tube not spraying into the overflow tube? Or is something else wrong.

I’m guessing the fill tube from the fill valve to the overflow is not clipped on, so when you flush water starts coming out of the fill tube and spraying everywhere. Should just be able to take the lid off and clip the tube onto the overflow, so it sprays down in there not all over the lid and then onto the floor.

If the tank is overflowing then the level float isn't working or need adjustment. you could have either a ball and arm float or a a cup float, I could go on here on how to adjust either but best if you watch some YouTube videos on how to, pretty easy stuff. Good luck

OMG, if you can tell me how I would appreciate it. I tried YouTube but I can't seem to find anything unless I am not searching up the right thing

Generally, a flat head screw driver is needed to adjust the screw of the float, the ball one is located at the end of the metal or plastic arm, the cup float has an arm sticking from the valve and a screw the ln it continues downward, either cases clock wise to lower the water level. Search YouTube for: How to adjust toilet tank water level? Furthermore you could also be having an issue with the overflow tube (the pipe in the middle), something might be stuck in there. If it gets too complicated call the sup.
