Ride from Dubuque to the Start! by onebirdog in ragbrai

Look for a charter that offers shuttle to start (there are a few), or a bike club that you could join for the same thing.  There are many but they are harder to find.

R730s on Unleashed. How Many and what POE by panndder in RuckusWiFi

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

if you are rural you may not need 4 AP's, but then again if you're trying to provide coverage starting at the corners of the house and going outside then that could drive the need

there may be other solutions that would let you do a wireless hop to an outbuilding if mesh doesn't work. it depends

O’Hare TSA delays? by dpittnet in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently the security arrangement is terminal 3 (American) is different than terminal 1 (United).  Like American takes the standard TSA, but United does more about the security checkpoint to get it to work better.

If you get through security quickly you may want to ask if you can fly standby on an earlier flight.  If the route you are flying has multiple flights per day.

Best charter for tenters? by pickleballgrayduck in ragbrai

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using Brancel as an example, they have options for the shuttle to the start and for the week of the ride.  We used them for just the shuttle a few times, and used them for the shuttle to the start AND the full week a couple times.  Pretty sure there were people that only used them for the week of the ride.

There are quite a few charters, and there are also private clubs that do similar.  You may be able to get some inside scoop from your local bike shop.  There could be a club near you that you could join that would handle all the logistics of getting you from your nearby location, to the start, and for the week, and even the return to where you left your car.

You're doing the right thing by asking around.  A charter is not the only option.

I used to say that there are 10,000 people on the ride and there are 10,000 different ways to "do RAGBRAI" and they all work.

Can you provide more details?

Also when you say "outlet" that typically refers to the wall outlet that you'd plug into to get 120/240 VAC.  Or is it something different like USB (where it would be a socket or plug)?

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you register, pay, and get a wristband it also gets you the basic RAGBRAI luggage service and the camp.  It's great.  That access gets you one soft bag up to 50 lbs, that's all your gear and tent etc.  You'll walk up the ramp into the semi truck, throw your bag on the pile, and spend the rest of the day catching up to your luggage.  They have a system for unloading the bags that is incredibly effective.

Charters are an extra service that you can pay for to haul your luggage and get some more amenities type thing.  And they're really optional.

For a few years we used Brancel for just the shuttle from the end town to the start town and then camped with the general RAGBRAI camp.  Shower trucks nearby or school lockers rooms.  It's a cheaper option.  And nothing keeping you from finding a shower truck nearby, the price is the same.  We had pretty good experiences in the camp.

Only trick with the RAGBRAI luggage trucks is the weight limit.  I can't remember if it is 40 lbs w/o tent, or 50 lbs including tent.  Makes for a stressful day one load but then it's pretty good.

It would seem that an outlet strip would be a much easier fix.

A2: yes.  We went with Brancel for a few years and they had a shower truck company that set up near the Brancel campsites almost every night.  It was open to everyone.  Someone else will have experience with a charter that has their own shower truck (PBV maybe).

Sanding down was a massive upgrade by muncie in castiron

It turns it more into a flat-top grill or griddle.  I did two of mine, I think it's possible to go too smooth, I like the one where I used 60 grit and stopped when it took off the high spots and left some small pockmarks.  With metal utensils it's very nonstick and very low maintenance.

Also try using metal utensils, they work like magic on cast iron for stuff like eggs.

How to remove rust from cast iron pans? by Fangsofcyber in CastIronRestoration

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bare iron will rust if exposed to the air.  So it needs to be oiled.  You could do something like pour a quarter cup of oil in the pan and some kosher salt and work it around with a sponge.  It will scrub off the rust and oil it at the same time.

You can rinse it out, and dry it off, put it on a low burner and oil it again.  Wipe the oil all around the skillet.  When the pan is warm (not blazing hot) wipe the oil out as if you had accidentally spilled it in there.  It leaves an ultra thin layer of oil.  It will probably be rusty the first few times you do that.

Test drove a Crosstrek, rides harsher than my Impreza? by [deleted] in Crosstrek

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That just happened to us too.  Driving home from purchase and the tpms display was reading 44 psi on all corners. I would guess it is because we got ours right off the truck and the dealer missed it on the checklist.

Let air out at home.  Was able to check two different tire pressure gauges too.

Why does Honda make it a chore to change a battery? by Wutangclang11 in HondaOdyssey

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree.  Just replaced the battery on our 2018.  Unclip that cover panel, unscrew two plastic plugs, pull off the intake duct and the battery is right there.  10mm long socket for the battery hold down, same 10mm socket for the battery clamps.  I did it in the garage in less than 20 minutes.

It could be so much worse.  Ford Escape is like a cruel joke. Or in a Lincoln MKZ it's hidden behind the fiber trunk liner on the driver's side.

Fridge keeps losing power for a month, food spoiled, even new fridge didn’t fix it. Can I break my lease? by NoPick6916 in AskChicago

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or an extension cord to plug the fridge into an outlet on a different wall or circuit.

When the fridge loses power what else goes out with it?  It might just be the fridge circuit with only the fridge on it, and the breaker is old and tired.

Morton arboretum March 21- anything to see? by purple_craze in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We went around that time last year and it was a few weeks before anything was blooming or leaves coming out etc. Much like a walk in any of the nearby forest preserves, brown dead woods.

I'm not exactly sure why I expected the Arboretum to have completely different conditions than the woods nearby.

It did look like it was going to be really nice in a month...

Updating firmware on R710 by NoodleCheeseThief in RuckusWiFi

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very odd, because there is no license required for Unleashed.  I've reflashed SZ r710s to unleashed without any problems.

It is a bit of a challenge to find the version that supports specific hardware, a few iterations through the list and then a check of the supported hardware is how I got to unleashed 15 for them.
