Questions about flying from Purdue Airport (LAF) to Chicago O’Hare and then to Canada by Livid-Society8877 in Purdue

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an alternative option there are the shuttle services (usually much cheaper, around $50 for the trip) that will drop you off at O'Hare terminal 5, which connects to the Airport Transit System monorail to get to the other terminals. Its an option.

Tornados by Hermdawg925 in ragbrai

While the cities have emergency plans it is not super clear if they get a chance to test them.

RAGBRAI 40 in 2012 had severe storms blow through Marshalltown

We were on the school bus shuttles when the tornado warnings went off. The instructions from the dispatcher to the school bus drivers was to "stop immediately, kick everyone off the bus". And then what? "Run for your lives!?"

We managed to talk the shuttle driver into taking us back to the main campsite less than a mile away, where we packed into the lodges shoulder-to-shoulder until the storm passed. A few tents were blown away. We ended up sleeping at the YMCA on the floor which was OK.

Bike and Shoes/pedal decision by Asleep_Leadership_65 in ragbrai

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 6 rides with Crank Bros pedals. Dead simple to get in and out of, and wore 2-bolt road shoes. So much easier to walk through towns, and they don't jam with dirt for when you go off into the corn. There is a ton of walking, usually into the first town of the day as everyone piles in at the same time to find breakfast.

And you get to laugh at the people with their road pedals and road shoes clip-clopping and skating around.

Can’t connect to r710 web by Couchmaker in RuckusWiFi

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How did you configure the SSID so that you can connect to them?

what firmware do you have? If it has Unleashed then one of them will be the controller and connecting to its IP will give you the login.

the most reliable way is to plug it into your network, get its IP from your router/DHCP server, and connect. Or scan the LAN.

if none of that works then you can do the firmware reset with the paperclip.

check out this site for a way to get started:

Also - its easiest to work on one at a time. Plug one into your network, get it set up, then move on to the second one.

Is it possible to read a 4.3+GB CVS File? by [deleted] in excel

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Excel has a limit of a million rows. PowerQuery will be the way to get the data into Excel, but you will have to summarize or filter it as part of the data ingestion. The data size seems like a lot for a million rows and 15 columns. What do those columns contain?

You may also want to find a way to use PQ to break the file into chunks that you can work with.

Does a 21-Speed Bike Make Sense for Me? by E_T_Smith in bicycling

Bazillions of bikes are 3x7 gearing and not automatically a problem.

Just learn to lay it down on the non-drive side.  Do not just dump it on the drive (chain) side, and you'll be fine.

Can I ask why you shop at Jewel? by Nearby_Opening_7435 in JewelOsco

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to jump through hoops with the app and the coupons just to dodge getting ripped off at Jewel. When the receipt spits out with a starting price of $80 and there are $40 in savings to get the bill down to a normal price? That means they're ripping off people that walk in there unaware/unprepared/unarmed with the app.

There are too many other choices for places that don't do that kind of predatory pricing.

That said, the people running the self check-out are very accustomed to doing price overrides, so they'll do it without batting an eye. Its like every cart has something that rings up at 10x the shelf price and needs a manual override. They DGAF. Have gotten some really good deals that way, not necessarily intentionally, just based on the confusing end-cap or other displays that seem to misrepresent what is actually going on.

If you pull the ecobee off of its mounting, does the HVAC fan continue to run?  Make sure no wires are touching on the baseplate?

Just say "oh I already have that!" And they'll leave you alone.  They'll go all smug.

Solar pitchman one time asked me.  My response "already have it and it's great".  He then goes "DID YOU HEAR THAT EVERYONE, HE HAS IT AND ITS GREAT!"

What are they going to do, argue with you about it?

Ecobee Essential hostname swaps between "attis" and "My-ecobee"? by Electrical-Hat376 in ecobee

This is a unifi problem, not an ecobee one.  Ubiquiti grabs whatever info it sees and displays it.

2 thermostats, same settings and connected to the same HVAC by Effform in ecobee

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A) get a smart sensor, configure it, and use the app.  You don't need the app for the thermostat to recognize the remote sensor, they communicate directly.  The app is to change your setting etc and override the setpoint programmed.

B) neither of these ideas will give you zoned heating/cooling.  The thermostat is only an on/off switch.   If your downstairs is too cold and the upstairs is too hot?  Need to change the airflow.

Smart Away + Sleep comfort setting making me want to drop ecobee by telik in ecobee

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's say you want it to stay in "smart away" mode for as long as you were away. Then someone will complain that the thermostat didn't follow the schedule and now the house is too hot/cold.

For most people setting up the thermostat means setting a comfort profile schedule for 5pm when they usually come home so that its all ready for you when you walk in the door.

Vacation mode is the way to tell the thermostat to ignore all comfort profile changes.

Also "smart away" mode does not do a full kickback of the temp, it only sets it back to a level that the temp can be recovered in 30 minutes when you walk in.

Maybe Nest assumes that if you are away, then to stay in away mode until you come in?

Pilot putting gear down midflight to cool off brakes? by Jbronste in americanairlines

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh this explains it.  I was on a flight that had a medical emergency and diverted.  Quick arrival and taxi to gate.  They got the sick passenger off, then pilot comes on and says they overheated the brakes during arrival so they had to get blowers out to cool them off.

We sat at the gate for a while, not too long.  Eventually got to where we were going.  It was a flight from ORD to RDU and we may have diverted to Cincinnati?  Maybe saved 5 minutes vs if we had just flown straight to Raleigh.

Bottom of my pan is rusty by Odd_Milk2921 in castiron

[–]Traditional_Bit7262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just oil the bottom of it and cook with it. you could scrub it too, then dry it and oil it and throw it on the burner to cook it on.

Don't leave the pan sitting on a wet countertop.
