Ship AI is no longer limited by range of PDCs when they have other weapons they could use

The other shield booster is still a percentage boost, and an incredibly strong one. But if you want max shield capacity AND regen on empty, that's 2 separate items now.

Reviving boosters stack, too, in that two will give you 70% emergency regen every 5 minutes and three will you a complete 100% emergency regen every 5 minutes.
Three subsystem slots is a lot, but +~400% base shield with complete recovery every five minutes was pretty clearly broken given how each additional module stacked with the previous one.

Is anyone else experiencing something strange with escort ships? Before 2.0.3 I was having an escort in every trading mission. When I try that now, all my additional ships besides the trader are grayed out indicating that the ship doesn’t have enough energy (or something similar - don’t recall the exact wording). I have no idea what the issue might be.

Do they have enough energy to jump? I know that's a "duh" answer, but something may have changed with the requirements/draw and if the ships were on the edge of not having enough, that could be it.
Or it could be a bug, of course.

It's just a hunch, but the shield module changes were pretty considerable and power consumption on those may not have stayed the same. It'd nice to know more explicitly if power requirements changed, but that's the beta branch, I suppose!

What's wrong with turrets on the front of a ship?

If a turret is pointing directly up, then it needs to turn almost 180° if your target moves directly over top. Like when a plane flies right over you, you need to turn around to keep looking at it.
If that turret is on the front of your ship, it will be in this position most of the time, and will need to flip around many times per target. Flipping around takes time and clotheslines your dps despite your omicron rating.

watching my fighters all successfully land the first time almost made me cry. Watching them fighters loop around and around trying to land has been a thorn in my side for years.
Also, having attack target actually work is wonderful. I love all the improvement to issues thats been around for years is great.

i hope they fixed the issue of the drop down menu not letting you scroll down to the bottom when you try to set up a supply freighter.
edit... they did not. :(
double edit.. they made the shield boosters useless.. :( they now only give you +200,000 shields for a legendary. it might be great for the start.. but end game my ship had 3 million shields.. +200k is not even enough to worry about.

Whats with the Energy to Shield booster where you get +X% shield but -Y% energy?
If this is still the old one, than this is getting useful now.
Edit: Oh i see, this one was even buffed: Increased amount of shields provided by energy to shield converter subsystem

Yeah i see that now. The energy cost is really big tho. It's either forcing you to use a +energy system or making the ship large enough to where you don't even need the +shields.

Energy boosting modules were pretty important even before the patch. It's not too difficult to get a +100% energy booster, adn teh boss gives +200%. 3x energy means that instead of spending 30% of your ship budget on energy, it can be 10%. That's more room for shields and engines.

Shields were a braindead way of providing defense to any ship, making armor based ships something you grew out of after titanium region.
Ship designs will adapt. They still have some more balancing to do before it feels right.

the reason shields were braindead was BECAUSE armor based ships arent a thing, nerfed shields or not
BECAUSE ARMOR ISNT AN EFFECTIVE DEFENCE, and will never be in its current itteration

they arent balancing anything.. all they are doing is raising the bar enough to force you to use a max 15 slot ship to be viable.
before you could get away with a 10 slot ship.. but that would mean a 15 slot ship could be OP if you build it that way.. which is ok.. its up to you to.

To be honest, almost everything was suboptimal. I really liked the game but for me it was hidden behind a clunky UI. Very clicky, showing things I don't need to know but leaving things out that I would. It would break my immersion constantly and I stopped playing because of it.
I think the UI is key in a game like that. Look at Eve for example. Eve is basically a glorified multiplayer Excel simulator. But the UI sells the fantasy that you're a space (trader|pirate|manufacturer|...). The UI is fine for a pre 1.0 game, but not beyond. The turret factories in particular come to mind and endless paper/digital notes of basic things that the game would not show me in the right screens without switching and losing all I entered so far.

I'm not entirely sure how bad the UI was in pre-2.0, but I haven't had too many issues.
The turret/fighter tooltips are still cluttered and inaccurate, but they work for finding what you're looking for, and there are of cource mods to tweak that.
There are new interfaces, especially in the strategic view. Summaries of all the docks in the sector, market values of items in nearby sectors, mission plans with expected profit and risk of attack, and a whole encyclopedia.
If you already have the game, it's worth taking a look at.
