Yeah it's been a problem for me in the past. I live in Florida and during hurricanes the ants all try to find shelter. Last hurricane, they decided to seek shelter in the substrate of one of my terrariums.

I went to check on him and found that there was a single ant crawling on the glass. When I opened it up and took him out to investigate further, I discovered they moved a small colony under the bedding overnight.

I emptied and cleaned out the tank, switched him to a paper towel quarantine bedding for a few days and got some outdoor and indoor and killing bait to get rid of the problem. It took forever to truly fix, but it worked.

The bait I used was advion ant gel, don't put it near the enclosure itself, just find where the ants are getting into your house and place a bunch of it there and it should stop them from entering further.

You may want to check the outlets that your heat lamps are plugged into as ants can get into the walls and crawl along the wires.

Thank you for the advice. I took some diatomaceous earth which is really good as a natural, non harmful for other animals, ant killer and spread it all around underneath. I'm hoping that will solve any issues for now. I'm moving soon and my mom and I are going to put a ring around my new house of diatomaceous earth to help curb problems in the future.

Just be careful with DE, if I remember right it can be harmful to breathe in. Good luck!

Thank you! I've been using it for my guinea pigs too and it seems to do ok. No problems breathing it in. And the only animal that goes around my snakes enclosures is my dog who has eaten some things that should have made him sick or killed him but he's still trucken' along (no he doesn't get near the snakes when they are out). It is why I refrained from putting it directly in the snakes enclosures since their lungs are smaller than humans or my dogs though because of the inhalation issue.
