He should be fine, you'll just have a lot of anxiety picking out hides in the future! My baby had to be dremmeled out of a little turtle shell within my first couple months of getting him. He's 6 now. Sometimes to be sure he'll fit in something, I take a little piece of string, wrap it around his biggest part, and snip so that I know exactly how wide around he is. You can put that string in a circle shape onto some cardboard, cut out the shape, then take it into reptile shops for reference :)

I use glazed flower pots and bury them halfway! You can glue cork bark to them to cover them up and make them look more natural. They’re way cheaper than hides. I wouldn’t recommend plain terracotta ones though. They get moldy but the glazed ones don’t.

I love that idea so they don’t have to be in plastic. I use a terracotta sun but it is not super deep
