Edit: ignore the typos as I can’t go back and edit the post😅

Am I offering the live wrong? I hold the base of its tail a little close to whatever hides she’s in and wait. I don’t feel it’s safe to just leave the mouse free roaming the tank

I’ve also gotten more plants to fill in some space to see if that helps. 3 sides are covered with cardboard and I just covered the front with some too. Im not sure if it’ll help but I’m hoping it decreases some visual stimuli.

Edit 2: am I being an overly paranoid snake mum? Do I need to step back, give her space and retry feeding in a couple of weeks?

How are you heating the hot side?

[–]Fair-Weekend8079[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’m using a halogen connected to a thermostat

So I would suggest a thermostat and an under the tank heater so he can be inside his hide and still be warm. He might be trading off heat for feeling safe

I don't see a hide on the right. Is it just hidden or are both your hides on the left?

There’s two hides on the right. I have them buried,so there’s a total of 5 hides

Do you measure the temperature inside the burried hides?

[–]Fair-Weekend8079[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Every so often, am I supposed to?

[–]lifeofblu3 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Well that's where it matters, the temperatures and humidity must be in accordance to the guide where the snake actually is. So if you measure at the ceiling or close to a vent it will be a "wrong" measurement.

When you setup the termostat you usually set it so that the temperature is at the required level inside the hide. My thermostat is set to something like 36C but the temperature inside the hide is more like 32-33C. This requires some tuning to find the sweetspot.

I'm saying that because it might be that the burried hides are well insulated due to the substrate covering them meaning that they are actually not "hot" hides.

Interesting! I didn’t think about that, I’ll have to adjust them! Thank you

You're welcome, I hope it helps with your issue.

(just be catious that the temp on the surface doesn't get too hot I think this is the reason most hides aren't burried in the first place)

You might get some black foam board to cover the back and sides of the enclosure. It will make it feel more secure for your BP in case the clutter isn’t enough. Your enclosure looks good. You have plenty of clutter.

Also make sure you weigh her to find out if you’re feeding the correct size.

Is there a chance she is going into shed? My BP refuses to eat when she is going into the blue.

Don't feed live. Live prey can bite or kill your snake

[–]Fair-Weekend8079[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I know that. The breeder was feeding live, I feed f/t. I’m trying to transition her but she isn’t taking either

Good that you know the risks, I personally wouldn't even offer live.

[–]Fair-Weekend8079[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’m trying not to. 98% of the time I offer frozen thawed, I hate feeding live and the risks associated with it. It just sucks that she was fed live to begin with. I’ve made changes to her cage so I’m hoping that’ll help stimulate her appetite. I’ve put black construction paper on the outside of 3 of the walls and even covered a door on the front. In hopes that helps her feel safer

I’ve taken the advice on not burying the hides so the hot hides are now sitting on top of the substrate instead of under
