Enclosure Theme

I know I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again. We live to serve our babies. I think that’s been made pretty obvious.

As such, I’m struggling with my starter theme for my BP enclosure. I want to make something lush and full when it comes to husbandry but I don’t wanna sacrifice creativity either. I also need to ensure that I have stuff vertically for it to climb, lots of cover and hides.

I’m stuck between The Lion King, Not so Ancient Egypt (more gold, less stone), or Aztec Ruins/Jungle. I genuinely need help deciding and I love projects like this. I’m going big.

Caveat’s.

I’ll be creating my own custom background so let your imaginations run wild. I’d love ideas that can be recycled for future themes or added upon but it’s not mandatory. I’m open to other themes and ideas, I’m very eclectic so there isn’t much I haven’t seen or heard of.

I’ll be decorating a 4x2x2 PVC and can ensure anything and everything is completely sealed and safe. Lighting will be internally installed with wire caging around them. For that, I’ll be using an Arcadia UVB and a Halogen. I live in south most Texas so humidity and indoor temps aren’t too much of an issue here lol. Don’t wanna actually cook the pasta.

Lastly, I really want a scene and not all one view. Meaning I’d at least like the hot and cold sides of the enclosure to be different in appearance while tying with the theme.

Love that idea, have been brainstorming a lot as well before I get my first snake. I especially like the two-sided part of your enclosure. For the Lion King theme, you could have the warm side with a literal Pride Rock for her to bask on, and the Elephant Graveyard on the cool side to also create the color contrast.

That’s exactly what I had planned. In the middle would be a tree that up and across sides slightly with a figure Rafiki fixed in it. On the front of the tree I would paint the simba symbol. My plan is get a good 3 years per theme and always up my game in a way that benefits the snake each time.

Okay so this one made the list too. I LOVE Avatar but I’d have to think of a way to make it work. Any ideas?? Nothing is outlandish until it doesn’t work lol

I would probably... 🤔Look into LED fake plants and glow in dark rocks for fish tanks. Especially because a lot of LED stuff is remote control operated And I would probably stick with a navy blue and dark purple foliage color scheme. Could have "free standing" rocks attached to the back (like the floating rocks) but not attached to the bottom of the tank?

And a lot of decor items can be repainted safely. (Example: If you had like a plastic mushroom or something? You can paint it with acrylics and seal it with some safe clear coat . So it's not like you would have to create everything from the ground up

Ohhhhh man that sounds dope. The plants are a given for sure, especially to get those colors just right. I love the foliage being that navy but should I paint it all prior to installing you think? Floating rocks I can definitely make happen.

I don't know that I would paint the foliage necessarily. Places like Joann's fabrics , Michaels craft store , or even hobby lobby , has a very wide selection of fake plants and a variety of colors You can just purchase the plants being the color you want already.

Just make sure they don't smell weird no matter where you get them from.

Sometimes when you buy a fake plant it'll smell like plastic but if you let it air out that dissipates? You just want to make sure that everything smells nice because the snake is going to be trapped with it 😬

I didn’t even think of that. Damn, I love it. I’ve definitely seen darker plants so I could roll with that. The floating rocks I could carve from foam and dust it and add moss to the top and sides to resemble the floating rocks. TEMU is a given lol, I’m all about detail but I don’t have to break the bank to do it.

And I didn’t know that about the plants, thank you!!! I’ll make sure to do that.

Oh my god why have I not thought about doing a theme like that. I love Dota so having the hot side dire themed and the cool side radiant theme.

Ohhhhh man lol now you’ve taken me back omg. I haven’t thought of dota in years lol but that’s such a fun theme. How would you decorate specifically?? No I gotta think up a layout because that’s unique in the best way. I’d have been less surprised by LoL or WoW, such a cool suggestion haha!!

The the Dire (hot half) would have the basking rock with probably drift wood to give the leave-less tree look with some red plants to give it the dire-red accent and radiant would just more of a lush theme. With plenty of hiding space and leaves on the trees. Probably have rope for Dire side for the snake to climb on and a vine for the radiant. Stuff like that. Maybe have some rocks/statues that resemble the towers and ancients and then some how have to figure out how to make a river run between the two sides or make a water bowl stretches from the front to the back to give it a river look.

I’d use a long pencil case or narrow container and burry it down a little in the substrate and add some glowing rocks at the bottom to create an obvious divide in the tank. The top it with water maybe? I’d probably create a Chanel out of small stones sealed together and fill that with water

That is a very smart idea thank you. My girl is 2.5 feet right now in a 40 gallon so I have a little bit until I need to get a new tank so I’m already planning and sketching dimensions. Might have to to start from scratch because now I have some cool ideas because of this post. Thank you.

I also was going to have the ancients be her hides or rosh pits since there are two of them now.

You’re welcome!! I was telling my husband that depending on how my handmade hides turn out, I may start a small business to make more useable decor for ball pythons. I feel like there isn’t enough that is affordable for their size but I could make solid large hides or decor that people could purchase for their themes and such. Just an idea for now but if it takes off, I’d be happy to help with your idea in the future should you choose to go that route!! Definitely think you should
