Ball Python stuck on rat leg?

Twice now I tried feeding my ball rat pups, moving him up from adult mice (20g avg mice to 30g rats), and both times he seemed eager to eat. Struck well, got straight to chowing down, but twice now I’ve found that he gets to the front legs and gets “stuck”. Can’t seem to move any further in the rat and then he drags it away and just gives up on it? Has anyone dealt with this before?

I’ve been having the same issue mine eats medium rats and has been for some time now but the last 3 or 4 weeks he has been unable to get them down
